The wing deferentiates the car from the run of the mill 911. I was often asked whether my GT3 was the racing version of the 911. My answer was yes. It is why the R has stripes. To distinguish it from other 911's. I will certain have a wing on mine.

You can barely find someone (talking normal people here, not car people)  in Germany who could tell the difference between the various 911 models. Only exception is maybe the 911 Turbo and the curren GT3 RS because of the side inlets. Only thing I know is that Porsche cars with huge wings often get a bad feedback here, especially from women. Smiley Not that I would really care.
