It's mighty fast!!

Yahoo: A power-lap time around Top Gear's Dunsfold aerodrome test track is nearly as important a measure these days of a car's performance as a lap time around Germany's Nurburgring. That explains why British firm Ulitma took matters into its own hands when its requests to appear on Top Gear with its GTR720 were ignored, and hired the track for itself.

The unofficial but independently verified result was a lap time of 1 minute 9.9 seconds, the GTR720 beating the previous fastest lap of 1 minute 10.7 seconds set by Michael Schumacher moonlighting as the Stig in a £1m track-only FXX Ferrari. What makes the Ultima's lap time more impressive is that although track optimised the GTR720 is a fully road legal car which costs around £30,000 depending on specification. The Ultima GTR720 is powered by a 7.0-litre Chevrolet V8 engine with 720bhp and is able to reach 62mph in 2.6 seconds and brake from 100mph to standstill in a seatbelt-testing 3.6 seconds.

The British firm states an even quick lap time is possible with Ted Marlow, Managing Director of Ultima Sports Ltd saying: "we still have significant room for lap time improvement in the future as there is always our 800hp variant to put through its paces yet, and of course the keys to our Ultima GTR720 are always available here for a certain Mr Schumacher should he like a shot at improving our new lap time record further still."
