Might be, I have no clue.

I was asking mainly because of the "TC Failure".

    Re: Incoming GT2

congrats and be prepared to be amazed at the sheer power of this car. it's a wholly addictive experience.

i see you have pcm 2.

as for the control lights, most probably due to low battery.

hardest part with car purchase is waiting for the plates.

    congrats and you WILL enjoy

    Re: Incoming GT2

    Thanks guys Smiley

I believe it is PCM 3 on these '09 models ? To be honest I would have done without but the dealer  said it would be commercial suicide not to have it so.....

Re the lights ? the ignition was on but engine not running so dunno, I think the TC warning was on whilst I ran it into the workshop, it wasn't needed as I decided to keep the back end straight for the first few manouvres Smiley

Have to say the clutch felt great, not too heavy but very linear with an excellent feel, I am not too worried about my traffic commute now. The workshop manager insisted there is some kind of "assistance" with these clutches which is contrary to what I understood - I hope he is correct since he is guy who will be looking after the car initially - some of these official centres lack of knowledge really scares me sometimes !

    Re: Incoming GT2

Took delivery last Thursday night and it has rained non stop ever since with a slight break yesterday afternoon but still some grease on the roads. I have just filled up for the third time this afternoon, average mpg 19.1 which is pretty outstanding considering the fun I have been having....

First thing, do I like this car...... well easy answer YES YES YES.... there is nothing I don't like about it even the heavy clutch is becoming easier as my "chicken leg" gets used to it !

The first thing I took note of was the brakes, they are simply outstanding, particularly in feel they have a very reassuring bit of "servo" in there initially which gives a lot of confidence and from there they are simply in the brick wall category. I find them much better than the CGT brakes which for some reason didn't have that initial bite and in fact worried me a little with the amount of push which had to be applied when stopping from 300kph - the GT2s are superb 10/10

The engine: very nice, love the low end torque delivery and then the way the boost increases after ~5000rpm when the expansion intake starts doing its thing. The only problem is the rev limiter seems set far too low, one just seems to get into the meat of the hp and the limiter interrupts play, pretty annoying. Also I notice the weight of the flywheel (or at least that is what I think it is) so when you get off the throttle when changing gear quickly the revs seem to labour and don't drop instantly (like they do in my 993tt or the CGT). I'm not sure whether this is something I would change or maybe just learn to live with since I'm sure it helps with the civility of the engine.

It always impresses me how clever Porsche are in matching the torque curve with the chassis capabilities. Even in the wet the car is pretty stable with some TC/PSM activity in 1st 2nd and sometimes 3rd but generally even on streaming wet roads one can really be a hooligan - the Mich cups are 100% no problem in the wet (I guess they are new so lots of tread still) I have tried the TC/PSM off and it is hilarious at lower speeds with the tail hanging out for fun and lots of controlability.

I would guess in the dry I am going to need a bit more performance but I am quite surprised how much I like what the car has and am currently not thinking of putting on bigger VTGs, I really like the response of the stock ones and am unconvinced of tuner claims of better response from bigger VTGs. Looking at Manthey's numbers his 0-200kph from 600hp is 10.7s which compares with 640hp (bigger VTGs) of 10.5s - It seems to be over 200kph where the big VTGs earn there keep but I don't think I will be going there often enough to justify losing the low end response.

The handling feels very nice and sorted...... Of course only being able to play on wet roads has limited what I can try but it feels very balanced with a superb steering feel and of course with the down force, 250kph feels totally planted..... I find the suspension set up just right with a nice level of compliance and in general the ride/noise levels are great and civilised enough for me for a GT car. I am getting some belts for the back and this will make a fine family tourer !

The interior is really special, I love all the alacantra, the seats, everything feels high quality and everyone who has been in it has commented on the great interior. One funny thing is because the alacantra roof lining has no padding between it and the roof skin, there is a booming echo in the cabin which is amuasing when one is on the phone......

I had the front end wrapped with ventureshield and the job was not 100% satisfactory so parts will have to be redone but at least the front is being protected...

Oh and I love the steam coming out of the front aero vent when one stops in the wet Smiley

You mentioned seat belts for the back, meaning you have the rear seats? I thought the GT2 comes with front seats only. Smiley

    Re: Incoming GT2

Simply awesome Toby, thanks for sharing! Yeh, weather is not the best here in the UK right now. Even with 4wd I have to be careful about how much throttle I am using. On a simple straight I got all 4 wheels spinning for traction in 3rd gear the other day. You sound like you are having great fun though. Hey, if you do any Christmas road trips around my neck of the woods then please drop me a line!

Ziggy, I had this sort of thing below in mind:

    seats.jpg

Alex, I have just been reviewing the accelration numbers from the test on the CG544 997tt and the in gear acceleration numbers are just incredible -much faster than the Manthey 997GT2 600PS/780NM....... It is pleasantly different being able to drive a turbo Porsche in the wet without lighting the tyres up every time you look at the throttle Smiley

I feel the CG/RS Tuning 600PS/787NM kit is in my car's future but am struggling to find any enthusiasm looking at how many Euros our Pound currently buys Smiley

    Re: Incoming GT2

hey 993tt, good writeup.i noticed in my gt2 that you are actually a lot faster when you shift up way before the rev limiter. i too hit it several times when accelerating and thought the rpm band to be a bit narrow. try to synchronize your shifts with the shift light and not seat of the pants feel....you will be way faster.....

i have driven my car only on dry roads...and TC lights up on 1st, 2nd and sometimes 3rd in the dry as well. the car simply has massive power.

How is that possible?  How can 544PS/798Nm fat Turbo be faster than a 600PS/780Nm lighter GT2???  Unless perhaps the drag slows the GT2 passed a certain speed...

I was just comparing power charts for the stock Turbo, my CG Turbo and the GT2:

    screenshot02 22-Dec-08.jpg

I love the fact that I have 100 BHP more than a stock Turbo at 3500 RPM from just an exhaust, an air-filter and a remap!  And the torque difference is insane.

Those RS-Tuning guys really know their stuff smiley00037.gif

Yeh, know what you mean about the ex-rate.  1 to 1 is just crippling, no Euro-kit for me for a while.

    Re: Incoming GT2

    Nice data charts Smiley

Here are the in gear figures:

    997tt 1550kg 544PS/798NM (RS Tuning)/stock 997tt 1581kg/GT2 Manthey 1480kg 600PS/780NM/stock GT2 1497kg

    80-100kph 4th: 1.4s/1.4s/1.6s/2.1s 5th:1.6s/2.0s/2.2s/3.0s 6th:2.4s/3.2s/3.4s/4.3s

    80-120kph 4th:2.5s/2.8s/2.9s/3.6s 5th 3.1s/3.7s/3.7s/4.8s 6th:4.3s/5.5s/5.8s/7.4s

    80-180kph 4th:6.6s/7.7s/7.3s8.7s 5th:8.0s/9.4s/9.0s/10.9s 6th:10.8s/12.7s/12.2s /15.3s

You can see from the numbers above that the stock 997tt is also much faster in gear than the stock GT2 - it is down to gear ratios and the smaller VTGs.....

The 600PS Manthey GT2 does 100-200kph in 7.0s compared with the 544PS 997tt CG's 7.1s so there may also be an element of RS Tuning engine dyno hp being more "stout" than Manthey's Maha dyno hp however one must caveat that the drag/downforce of the GT2 will require more hp to accelerate it (than the 997tt) but it is at least 50kg lighter and only driving 2 wheels not 4  Smiley
