Porsche says North American August sales up 16 pct

FRANKFURT, Sept 3 (Reuters) - German sportscar maker Porsche (XETRA:PSHG_p.DE - News) said on Wednesday it had sold 2,389 vehicles in the United States and Canada in August, 16 percent more than a year ago boosted by sales of its Cayenne sports utility vehicle.
The company said it sold more Cayennes last month in the world's biggest car market than it did sports cars. It sold 1,233 Cayennes, a model launched in North America in March this year.
By contrast sales of its traditional 911 and Boxster sportscars slid, tumbling 44 percent to 1,156 units.
