Hope this doesn't happen to your SL65 Mike S!

The owner of a luxury convertible worth almost $500,000 put up a fight before two masked men stole the car in Sydney's eastern suburbs last night.

The 49-year-old had just got out of his car at his Rose Bay home about 9.15pm (AEST) when two men wearing balaclavas approached him, police said.

When the bandits climbed into the car - a 2003-model black Mercedes-Benz SL65 AMG two-door coupe with registration "MERC" - the owner dragged one of them back out.

The other bandit threatened the owner, who then retreated, and the car was driven away.

Police said the car was last seen heading towards the Sydney CBD.

No weapons were produced during the incident and the car's owner was not injured.

Mercedes-Benz's website describes the SL65 as the "most powerful roadster in the world" and lists a retail price of $455,900.

On July 29, four masked men stole a similar vehicle from its owner at his Vaucluse home.

Police have said criminals seek high-powered luxury cars to use in other offences, and have warned owners of luxury vehicles to be wary when coming home late at night.
