    997S vs. 997GT3 80-120 km

    From the technical data in both catalogs:

    Flexibility 80-120 km/h:
    997S 6.1 secs / GT3 6.2 secs

    can anybody explain this?

    That's the time it takes for each car to go from 80-120kph in 6th gear.

    Yes, we know this but why is it that the 997S is faster than the GT3?

    Because it's geared differently. In order for the GT3 to hit 193 mph it uses a smaller 6th gear. That's what makes it lose some accelleration time.

    Also, the GT3 has less torque than the 3.8L at low revs. If you drive the car properly, nobody would ever accelerate from such a low speed in 6th gear - that spec is meaningless...

    The driver should be in 3rd gear at most...

    was what I was about to say...less displacement=less torque for such matters

    ps I believe these flex stats are in a stated gear (5th?)

    Yup, like you said manufacturer uses the fifth gear for this test.

    of course not! the gt3 is a high reving engine, 8k , on 5th gear at 80kph it might be slower , but on second or third... wooooooosh...

    It's just a matter of where you want to sacrifice power. The GT3 wouldn't make 415 hp on top, if it had great power down low. More rpm equals more power; in a n/a motor, of course.

    Well, the time is already about the same and in the right gear the GT3 would be significantly faster, but it's not like night and day. GT3 would be a couple tenths of a seconds faster consistently. The GT3's real stregth is on a race track, not doing these types of straight-line acceleration tests. For that, buy a Z06...

    The GT3 is a semi racing car.... Overtaking acceleration (eg: 80-120/60-80 etc) does not matter to 'him'.
    Use those numbers to evaluate the new Turbo, but not the GT3...
