    Re: OFFICIAL: 2018 Porsche Cayenne

Not for everyone but Gen1.1 and 1.2 looked unique. Gen 2.x where boring. Gen 3 is better but still boring. But the real issue is the base price and options make it even worse (at least $15k to bring it on par with the competition, $25-30k to make it special). At the top end the URUS is going to hurt Turbo and turbo S sales a lot in places where it is accepted to drive exotic cars.

    Re: OFFICIAL: 2018 Porsche Cayenne

I think the Gen 2 Cayenne still looks fresh with fantastic proportions from the outside albeit the dash was starting to look dated...  gen 3 looks to update where it counts and mildly sharpen up the outside where it needed it the least... with 21/22 inch wheels and the right options it should look the real deal and with Porsche spending over a year post Q7 launch honing the chassis it should also again clean up everything else... hope turbo though will be more differentiated vs base models..... only issue I see is not going PDk...

    Re: OFFICIAL: 2018 Porsche Cayenne

Well we know that there is nothing else that will out handle a Cayenne within the SUV category. It is the benchmark. that everyone measuring up to.

The Gen 3 will out handle the Gen 2 and that was already the best.

Agreed  - but you are in the tiny, no minuscule , minority that actually cares about the handling of their SUV. I'm with you on this point but the world does not care.

    Re: OFFICIAL: 2018 Porsche Cayenne

Funny thing; Dutch advertisement of the Cayenne: "It had always been, and will always be, a true sportscar"... made me throw up in my mouth a little...

20 million SUVs were sold globally in 2015! Porsche were happy to sell 73.000, to a slight minority who care about better handling and a larger degree of driving pleasure than can be expected from owning even a premium brand SUV from a competitor.

To be fair, most of those mainstream customers bought the Cayenne for reasons other than handling IMO, I agree with crayphile and Nick that those that had handling as a top priority in their SUV were a minority.

    Re: OFFICIAL: 2018 Porsche Cayenne

Some, I don't know how many, buy the Cayenne for the Porsche badge, initially. But even those get to understand the difference after a while.

I understand that for bargain seekers, this difference may not offset the extra cost especially since it is a SUV after all.

I really don't get the "it's amazing for an SUV" line of thinking. Reminds me of Homer Simpson asking for the finest, cheap cigar.

    Re: OFFICIAL: 2018 Porsche Cayenne

Yes, because the typical SUV is like a barge to drive fast if you venture beyond the "straight line".

The Cayenne is a sufficiently adequate utility vehicle but it also gives a large amount of driving pleasure. Actually, it is more enjoyable to drive fast than most "sporty sedans".

I think they are bought because they make a wonderful sound, particularly in slow moving traffic in populated areas Smiley
