A Radical also came out to play, loved that label on the passenger side. It casually did a 2:15.

I like the Area27 decal. And nice track, based on the video footage above.

    Whoopsy:

First up, Richard Spaniard's lap in my car.

I bet you there's a lot more than 4 seconds left in your car judging by the way Richard's driving. And if you get him on a skid pad to teach throttle steering you have to watch him like a hawk, he's a total cheatSmiley

Beautiful track BTW. There are corners that are going to give you years of enjoyment.

Great shots; will be nice to get some more landscaping in to reduce the sand that will inevitably blow onto the track.

What the car looks like after going through a coupe construction zones and doing some off roading. It will be one of the dirtiest 918 you guys will ever seen. And I haven't even took a picture of the windshield yet!

Very nice video .  The corner off camber will probably be the one where people slide out ...... and there is a wall not too far away . I guess it will get protection with tires ?

Is the sand a problem or not ?

And your car looks gorgeous with the dirt on it indecision

    Re: Area 27 track

We have over 10,000 tires waiting to be bolted together and put in strategic areas, and right now we are basically testing the track to see which corners are mostly to have an off and a tire wall is needed.

As for the sand, it is currently a problem when the wind blows, mini sand storms so to speak, one time when I got back to the pits my side intakes are full of sand and looks like a beach, forget to take a pic though. Anyway, they are being seeded to grow grass and hopefully by next spring there will be a lot more green patches to hold down the sand and dirt. We are also growing back the native plants in the infield too. (They were all gone during construction as one can imagine)

Makes sense; it may take time though unless they can irrigate a bit to speed things up - this is after all the country's only desert.

    Re: Area 27 track

Thank you very much for sharing. Track looks like it has a real good "flow", if you know what I mean.

What are the current plans with the run-offs? Gravel, pave, grass, combination?

And for your next challenge: Tire brand and top Porsche crest to line up, while bottom of Porsche crest points at valve stem. blush

    Re: Area 27 track

Spent the whole weekend doing laps, soooooooooo much fun.

The damn ClubSport is so forgiving. Lets me learn to drive without trying to kill me. My Pirelli slicks didn't make it in time so I had to make do with some DOT slicks, Hoosier R7s for the time being.

I picked up almost 10 seconds on the track since Thursday afternoon, now I finally cracked the 2:20 mark and into the teens. Since none of you had driven on the track yet so there is no reference, but the current absolute track record is held by a V8 Radical driven by a pro-racer, 2:09. A 675LT and a current Viper ACR both lapped at 2:11 and that's the production car record, and both are driven by a current pro-racer.

Next up there is a 600HP Camaro race car which is in the 2:16s by a amateur racer, a stripped out Nissan GT-R do 2:16s also on Hoosiers R7s driven by someone who holds the track record at our other tiny local race track, Mission Raceway. My 918 driven 'gently' by Richard Spenard also did a 2:16.

Outside of these, I don't believe anyone else in the club went under 2:20 for the last couple months. I sort of hit a wall around 2:21s and then I went through my videos and found where I can pick up a couple seconds fast and finally broke through, had a 2:18 and a then back to back 2:19s. I am sure there are quite a few more seconds to be had in the ClubSport, I think it should lap in the 0s in proper hands and proper slicks. But I am already ecstatic to go under 2:20 by myself and join some elite company within the club. indecision

This is former 2 time Canadian Superbike champion in the 600 class Steve Dick. We had like 10 bikes running over the weekend from street bikes to race bikes.

    14853221_10153811313896400_4967975486467726998_o.jpg

I 'took' pole on one of the sessions, after exiting the pits I never saw the GT3RS again for the whole 30 mins session. Towards the end the orange thing somewhere in the pic caught me but I hold him off just enough to finish the session in 1st place smiley Another lap he would have passed me. That's the 600HP Camaro stock car.  The blue thing behind the RS is a 06 Z06, he was dead meat for the grey stripped out GT-R, at least he hold his own against the white regular GT-R there. The Targa was just on the pit lane to pose laugh

On the far side was the 'slow group' coming in, regular GT3s and V10 R8s are classified as 'slow'. That red thing is a C7 Corvette.

Exit of turn 7 with the steep banking. On Saturday we had some press visited the track and they took this pic of me lapping. It's pissing rain in Vancouver and on Vancouver Island where the other track club is but its 15 degrees with sunshine at our track. There should be a pic of me in my Porsche Motorsport race suit posing with my car somewhere on the internet, they didn't send me that pic though. I 'almost' looks like a factory driver haha smiley

That last pic sort of sums up my track. Vineyards, fair weather, terrain, race track, race car.

The track record Radical was posted earlier, that black one in front of my 918

    Re: Area 27 track

Nick. This looks like real fun - Thanks for posting.

I was at the local track Friday and saw 3 x GT4 CS which are owned and managed by a local race team. It is really tempting and I might do a trackday later in the season to get a grip with this beast. Funny enough I have some time and a few races in the Radical. Not the V8, but the SR3.

Local experience is that the V8 Radical is as fast as the GT3 cars with the SR3's around 4-6 seconds slower (5.8 km track). The CS is posting times at around 10-12 seconds slower than the V8, but I guess track layout will have quite an impact with the downforce of the V8 specially making a difference.

Keep posting these pics / reports wink

    Re: Area 27 track

Thanks for story, enjoyed it. now when will we get invitation for track?angry to change the lap times..indecision

    Re: Area 27 track

Great pictures as always. So nice to finally have a proper track in this part of the world.

"regular GT3s and V10 R8s are classified as 'slow'."

This is going to turn into a beautiful arms race.
