    New E92 M3

    I have a 997 C4S cab which is tiptronic. It's ended up being a second car as I drive a Mini Cooper S auto to work every day and I've only done 3200 miles in a year. I've decided that as its a weekend toy, I want something a little more involving than a tiptronic and the current choice is either to switch to a manual 997 or try something completely different. I have managed to find a physical M3 for immediate delivery. Although I wouldn't buy the M3 without driving it (something which was being suggested by the dealer I have spoken too) I was just wondering if anyone had driven the new M3 yet as a comparison to the 997 in manual guise which is my alternative.

    The main downside with the 997 for me is that I've already had 2 and really nothing has changed so if I'm changing cars then I'd ideally like something different.

    Thoughts?

    Got a 04M3 (not new one, only 333 HP) and had a 997S (now have 997TT). They were comparable for "thrill factor" and similarly sporty handling on roads and highways. Gotta imagine the NEW M3 with the 400+hp is gonna make your current 997C4S start to feel like a Boxster; e.g., "fun to drive but underpowered."

    Of course on the track, with tight fast turns never encountered public on roads and highways, one's probably a pig and the other's a bear.

    +1. Great analysis. Unfortunately the shape of the current M3 is not that attractive, and a chipped 335i is not far off in performance at a budget price.

    Yeah kinda bugs me too.

    Looks like a dangerous reptile. I don't want to convey this message on the highways: "I'm an aggressive ahole, get out of my way!" Especially in a _BMW!_
