    Dodgy PCM nav data

So, having taken delivery of my 997 a few weeks ago, I thought I'd try the PCM Nav system out during a trip up to Manchester over new year. Naturally, I elected to use the new M6 toll road (UK residents will know what I'm talking about here ), but to my surprise the nav system became more than a little confused once I turned off the main motorway. It appears that the data on the DVD my car was supplied with is incomplete - the M6 toll road appears to be on the map, but it isn't connected to the M42 correctly (there is a gap of about 0.25 miles), and it displays in a grey colour.

Does anyone know if there is an updated nav DVD available with the correct data? Has anyone else had the same problem with the factory supplied disc? It's a little irritating to have the nav system screamming "perform a U turn if possible" all the time!!

PS: I didn't have "avoid toll roads" selected, so it's not that.

PPS: No other problems - the car is just fantastic!! Even better than I dreamt it would be!

    Re: Dodgy PCM nav data

The mapping systems are far from perfect, whenever I test it going between two points I know it rarely takes what is the best route. I also have a very annoying feature (as does my wife's Lexus, in that a footpath to the rear of our house is mapped as a road so every journey begins with instructions which must be ignored.
Having said that I have used it to get to places I do not know and in truth I still do not know where these places are I just turned left and right when it said and it took me there and back, I would now never be without it.
PS I am travelling Manchester to Milton Keynes on Sunday would I use the M6 toll road? (just so I know to ignore the navigation at that point)

    Re: Dodgy PCM nav data

The map updates and the real world can be some what different.
If you know where you are does it really matter?

I recommend you use the toll road - even though it costs Pounds3, the quality of the tarmac is worth it compared to the M6 elevated section through Birmingham. On a quiet day there's little in it time-wise, but on a busy day it's far less congested.

The nav system will try to route you down the old M6, but once you're on the new road, it should shut up for a while until you get near the end. The way they've built it, you actually need to turn off the main M6 carriageway to avoid the toll road, although PCM won't tell you this - if you continue in the same lane you will end up on the toll road by default.

    Re: Dodgy PCM nav data

Perhaps the system is super advanced and is trying to save you Pounds3.00

Definitely go for the toll road, great tarmac, much less traffic, and Police - you will really be able to open the car up

Actually, I'm not so sure about the Police side of things - I've used it a couple of times recently and there were coppers on the opposite side (South) - easy money as your much more likely to be speeding on that road!

Great road though - I use it whatever the time.
