Re: PSM required soon with no "Off" switch?

given other rules by amerixcan authorities in road safety it would be expctable to see this , but it's still worring that cars are supossed to take care of more of the driving!!
maybe people will have to find the fuse or make themselves a switch to enjoy "proper" driving in the future!!

My answer to these "advancements" is to drive an old car

Re: PSM required soon with no "Off" switch?

that should be the best way definatly!!!

There's nothing wrong with adding engineering advances which improve the vehicle performance/handling, which were not possible when the basic car design was invented a century ago. To assume that a design should be static is to deny progress. By devaluing PSM on the basis that "proper driving" should be enough... ignores the fact that you do not have more than 2 feet, which would be required to brake at least two wheels independently and simultaneously.

Having said that... I see no reason for electric windows, electric seats, and fancy stereos in a sports car... do you?

Also... we should all be less concerned with "...rules by amerixcan authorities..." and more concerned with gratuitous EU rules, such as the ridiculous front hood pedestrian rules, forcing car companies to come up with the most egregious solutions.

Re: PSM required soon with no "Off" switch?

I don't notice anyone suggesting that airbags be either optional or generally be allowed to be disabled for the driver. ABS used to have an off switch on many cars, but that seems to have gone bye-bye; I don't hear anyone complaining. Safety and other technology improvements are both critical and cost effective. While there are a small number of situations or individual for which it might be desirable to make it optional, making a feature standard in the 20m sold each year around the world dramatically reduces the cost and improves our overall safety.

Even if you can control your car without it, you are safer if all the incompetent drivers around you have the best possible technology.

Re: PSM required soon with no "Off" switch?

Dang! Universal PSM equipment will mean the end of most of those exciting endings for those televised police chases.

Re: PSM required soon with no "Off" switch?

Switching off PSM is not only for fun, it can be useful in certain situations (e.g. stuck in snow, mud etc)...

Re: PSM required soon with no "Off" switch?

Maybe it was something I missed in the article, but I didn't see where it said that NHTSA wouldn't allow defeat switches.

Re: PSM required soon with no "Off" switch?

    Big Brother is watching you!!!

I wonder where all these things will lead?
