    997 vs. 996 GT3

Can anyone give me a comparison between the two cars?

    Re: 997 vs. 996 GT3

what in the world are you lookin for?
-need to be more specific i.e. comfort, performance,
    reliability .. all that junk

    Re: 997 vs. 996 GT3

If You love the feel of a high performance track car that still practical for the street then you should drive a GT3 and a 997 CarreraS. That is the contrast I tested and al though carreraS is agreat car I cose the GT3.

    Re: 997 vs. 996 GT3

The best advise will be given by yourself after test-driving both cars. Your Porsche-philosophy should match with the model you choose. Although rather heavy, the GT3 is a true track-car you can drive on the street, with certain limitations (e.g. you'll scrap the street quite often with the front-spoiler), while the 997S is a perfect sportscar which will allow you easy-going city traffic as much as occassional track-day use with not much modifications needed (except maybe brake-fluid).

    Re: 997 vs. 996 GT3

From what I've read, both great cars. If you want a serious track car, get the GT3. If you want a daily driver, get the C2S.

The suspension on a GT3 is quite punishing, and many are disappointed. They move on to C2S's. That leaves quite a few used GT3's with low mileage available right now. A nice time to get the best 911 currently available.

so true. but get on a nice backroad, the proper twisty bits, or the track; it all starts to make sense.

again, really comes down to what you use the car for. as a daily driver, i too would recommend the C2S. but as a 'fun' car, the GT3 is peerless.

    Re: 997 vs. 996 GT3

Having been fortunate enough to have owned afew Porsches I have to disagree. I owned a 97 993 Turbo among others and I have friends who a 997 and a 997S that have let me drive them extensively including on the track. Having that experience I was overwheimed when I drove the GT3 that I purchased. I drive almost daily and you must be careful on driveways with the low splitter, and the ride is rougher that the carerras, but the performance is much greater compared to the rougher ride. You really must drive onr before you rule it out, it is an incredible car.

    Moogle,

what kind of wing is it? Not the one from the RS, I suppose.

I would think about a modification at the front as well, otherwise you will get a different handling at high speeds!

    its the RS wing

actually, the only front difference on the RS is additional venting above the radaiators.

that said, the stock wing on the GT3 is adjustable, and in the highest position, provies about the same downforce as the RS wing in the lowest position

    its balanced.

Ow, and moogle, how could we forget to ask: please, post some more pics of your amazinf car, preferably in wallpaper size!

    Re: 997 vs. 996 GT3

WOW, really nice GT3. I am looking for a black GT3 CS, not that many are black. I usually prefer stock look but that wing is "allowed" IMO. Especially since it's a CS.

    Re: 997 vs. 996 GT3

Moogle that pic has me droolin

    Re: 997 vs. 996 GT3

i'd personally prefer the original wing on a non-RS GT3... but this is definitely a stunning picture!!
    thanks moogle!

Aren't these the EXACT WORDS from the "Top Gear" GT3 RS vs. F360 CS test comparison?

Yes, the std. GT3 wing is adjustable but I would not place it in the very top position unless you are on a very twisty bit of tarmac, e.g. the Hockenheim Shortcircuit. The additional venting in the RS provides about 14 lbs. of additional downforce at the front at 200 kph if I'm correct.
