    Almost all German car magazines "see" the flat 4 turbo in the next Spyder.
    Slightly detuned GT3 engine is a "bit" too optimistic. New emission rules beginning Sep 2018, will not allow the GT3 engine to be used in the current form.
    Porsche don't want to make the Boxster/Cayman platform too attractive. I dont expect more that 410HP, maximum. Some people are pretty sure that on their informations the next Spyder will only have around 385HP.

    I'm afraid so... The exhaust system also indicates turbo, not n/a but I could be wrong. 

    GT4 RS could be a different story though...of course at a different price level as well. Smiley

    But doesn’t the exhaust system indicate 6 cyl turbo as opposed to 4??? I’m still betting on Carrera S engine, but hoping for detuned GT3 of course.

    Porsche has decided to go with 4cly. turbos for the Cayman / Boxster range - I doubt very much, that "they" would change this paradigm...my guess is something like a 385 hp 4ycl. turbo...which is 10 hp more than the last one...Smiley

    Well if the Spyder comes with nothing better than a hotter beetle engine it’s another Porsche I won’t lose sleep over missing out on. Smiley

    Porsche also said that they would never build a diesel and that paddles don’t belong in a GT car.

    I said in the GT4 bit i reckon its turbo as the exhausts look like the GT2RS exhausts not the gt3 ect

    Perhaps they'll split the difference and make a turbo flat 5 indecision

    Will that make everybody happy? 

    In the meantime, I need to call my dealer to make sure my deposit covers GT4 RS, not just GT4. If 4 cyl, I'll stick to my 6 cyl NA GTS.

    I just have a horrible feeling they will both be turbo flat 4 but i really, really hope i am wrong!

    Actually it does fit. Weissach have had a "GT4RS" prototype running every single engine Porsche current makes for a while now. From the flat 4 turbo to NA flat 6 to turbo flat 6. Not sure what they finally decide to put in the car though.

    The gt4 with the 3.0l flat 6 turbo would make sense, the last car had the 911 engine

    Porsche said the flat 6 turbo did not fit. OK, maybe they lie to have a reason for this flat 4 engine.
    It could also be, that the flat 6 turbo can be fitted to a 718 prototype, maybe with sacrificing the rear trunk.

    Very annoying this stupid fear to threaten the 911 and restrain the Boxster/Cayman.
    For consisted customers the 718 is difficult to accept. Not everyone what to move "up" to the 911.

    Latest rumor from someone close to Porsche: 4-cyl. turbo engine with "close" to 400 hp (380-390).

    Brake system from GT3...

    GT4 (RS) will be a different story, no 4-cyl. (but he couldn't tell me if they are using a detuned GT3 engine).

    RC, you wrote GT4 (RS) no 4-cyl.
    Does that mean only the RS will have flat 6 or also the normal GT4  ??

    I ask because of the brackets you put around the RS.

    That's why I ask, for me a little bit unlikely that the Spyder and the normal GT4 will not share the same engine.

    To those recalling that's Porsche claimed certain engines fit or don't fit in the 718 platform. Well, such a statement is full of grey area. Technically the x51 3.8L did not fit in the 981 either. But we all know it would have been relatively simple for Porsche to make it fit.

    Fit and series production is not the same thing. Conditions for series production are much higher than "it fits".
    The flat 6 turbo may fit, but may will overheat quickly.
    The flat 4 turbo and the flat 6 n/a fit and works that's all we know.

    There is no reason for Porsche to push 450HP or even 420HP from the turbo 6 in the 718. Turning down boost hence power do wonders in managing intake temperature. It also make the engine less stressed as compared to pushing 400HP from a turbo 4. 

    Mid engine/rear engine cars have the advantage of running 3 openings for cooling as oppose to front engine cars that only has one, the front bumper.
