    991 TT Mods

    Since we are all enjoying our cars and more and more of us have real world driving experiences logged, I thought it was a good time to start a thread on mods.

    AWE Tuning, www.awe-tuning.com had my car a couple of weeks ago to CAD scan, the exhaust, intake, etc.. so they could get an early start on the new 991 TTS platform.  Of course, they will build their own car but since it was ordered with a custom color it just hasn't arrived and they wanted to get started building a system as demand is already rising for exhausts and more power.  I've used AWE on two previous platforms, 996 and 997, and their build quality, service, and durability have always been outstanding.  Performance gains are always a top priority but are table stakes for these guys as they are skilled craftsman at extracting power while not in any way sacrificing drivability.

    They will have a system designed and built in a couple of weeks.  I'll be sure to follow up on this thread with details and opinions but if it's anything like their other system the results will be stunning.  After all, 20+ years tuning these machines gives them a leg up.

    Here are some pics of them scanning my 991;

    Ahm... looks remarkably like "reverse engineering"! angry
    Or is the scanning just to determine a digital version of the room they will have for their own system?

    Absolutely. Scans are so they know exactly what space they have to design within.

    Why don't they get the official material from Porsche (repair shop manuals, etc.)? Smiley

    The official material wouldn't be as accurate or precise, and they'd have to manually create the model of the space from that for the CAD system.

    Re: 991 TT Mods

    That is correct apias, they are most interested in determining the space they have to work within as well as the new designs Porsche has implemented for the 991.

    Remember this process used to take weeks with the car in the shop prior to the CAD scanning.  They would need to design their product then work to ensure everything fit perfectly.  Now they can design the new system, exhaust, intake, etc.., and overlay it into the CAD scan and know exactly, without the car in front of them, that the design will bolt on perfectly.

    Re: 991 TT Mods

    So has anyone installed one of the aftermarket exhausts yet?  I see several manufactures have them available.

    Re: 991 TT Mods

    I have now had the pleasure over the last 2 months now to live with the AWE Tuning Exhaust with the RSR style tips, ~ 29hp gain and weight reduction.  The car is so much more fun to drive with the improved sonic performance.  It has a much more exotic note and a more powerful deeper tone.  No drone!

    The other very interesting improvement I've been enjoying over the last 30 days is the G.A.I.C Software Upgrade.  30 - 40hp and 25tq+ increase.  The car is so much more responsive and quick, but yet smooth, not violent.  Just more of what you want.  It's all good.
