    Re: Issues With Velar

Any news regarding your Velar? Have you sold it?

We are in the process of getting a Range Rover Evoque Black Edition with the 2.0 l 240 hp engine, superb (lease) offer.

The Black Edition package has basically all options in it, with a few exceptions.

At first, I thought Range Rover wants to get rid of some of their old models, so they made the Black Edition but these cars are 2019 cars and engines (petrol and Diesel) have already WLTP certifications. I know that a new generation is expected for 2019 but I couldn't pass on this offer. A Mini Countryman would have been almost the same money. Smiley

Talked to the dealer and had an exchange with some owners on various car forums. I didn't get the feeling that the customer service is bad and/or that they have bad engines. Of course I haven't owned one yet, so difficult to tell.

Incredibly cheap for us here. I was lucky though, dealer had a special offer because he ordered too many Black Edition (he had ten cars, only three left) and he wanted to get rid of them. Usual lease rate is around 430 EUR...still a bargain for a 52k car and a car with so many options. Car is already WLTP certified, 180 hp Diesel and 240 hp petrol have same price/lease rate.

    Re: Issues With Velar

    Hi RC,

Nope haven't found any one willing to take the Velar off me for a decent price.  So we kept it, and I got a 2 year warranty extension from the dealer only on the engine, as long as I service it at their garage.  Since the engine change I haven't had any problems at all mechanically, lets hope it stays that way :) I do however have a complaint about a loose glove box that keeps rattling.  I passed by to ask them to take a look and they said that's how it's built....I was like an 80,000 Euro car isn't built with a rattling glove box lol they said we can't do anything now so take an appointment, which was after one month!!  he even told me to go see the showroom velar to compare the glove boxes to see that they are both loose as if to prove that there is nothing wrong with the car... Their ignorance is beyond belief, after I took him for a drive he realized that it wasn't normal.... my wife thinks that I have it in for them and I'm being to picky... (It's her car, I bought it for her reluctantly, as I didn't have a good experience with LR).

The car is stunning to look at and the interior is really nice as well....but I guess I'm just not a fan.....and this particular dealer has been rubbish with me....

    hope this helps....

I've had my share of rubbish dealerships when I was still into Lotus. I can relate 100%.

6270E22D-E741-4AC2-B028-4605EE1582E7.jpegSorry to hear that but your Velar is really a beauty and just let's hope that everything will be OK from now on.

Yes, the dealership and how it deals with issues is very important. The sales manager of the Landrover dealership we get our Evoque from is a patient of my wife, so I hope that at least in the service department, they will deliver. You never know though... Sorry about your troubles, a crappy dealership is even worse than a crappy car.

I just don't want to spend 200 EUR per month for a Mini Countryman with a small engine when I can have the Evoque Black Edition for 150 more. So I guess we are going to take our chances, thanks again for replying to my answer and good luck with your beautiful Velar.

I want to reassure you, but my experience hasn't been pleasant...so I just can't lol

    Re: Issues With Velar

Evoque is a much simpler car and has been in production longer .. should be fine, I hope

    Re: Issues With Velar

true, plus we had the new 245bhp engine, not the older one that has been tried and tested...

    Smiley Smiley

I really read a lot about the Evoque and the Ingenium 2.0 turbo petrol engine with 240 hp. So far, the tech seems to be reliable, with a few exceptions. Some electronics issues but mainly due to weak/faulty battery. Car is a 2019 model, the Evoque has been built the same for over six years now. The 9-speed auto also had some software issues in the beginning but now, it seems to work just fine (I test-drove it, no issues).

180 hp Diesel was a huge disappointment though, very very lethargic when you fully accelerated. It feels powerful in the city with half throttle but once you push it hard, the speed barely increases, I was so surprised how long it took to get from 30 to 70 kph (I passed a tractor) and even worse how long it took to get to 100. Smiley Safely passing other cars is basically impossible, very dangerous.

The 240 hp petrol engine isn't much much better but it offers better throttle response and a decent acceleration in all important speed ranges. 240 hp sounds a lot but the Evoque weights 1.8 tons, so... Smiley

We were also looking at the Velar, only 100 EUR more lease rate but the car is too big for us and my daughter. Parking in the city would be (almost) impossible, the Velar seems to be very long.

    Re: Issues With Velar

Since we are considering samples of 1, I'll suggest another (reassuring) case: a family member's Evoque has been trouble free for over 2 years now. Coincidentally, he drives it in Beirut; so it has the petrol motor. (The only diesels allowed in Lebanon are certain larger trucks.)

    Re: Issues With Velar

just fyi, my wife's car has the Diesel (D240) engine since we are now based in Cyprus, this is the engine that needed to be replaced....

    So maybe I'm lucky... Smiley

Doesn't Land Rover develop and manufacture the new engines on their own now? I think the "older" (previous 2017 or so) 240 hp petrol engine was from Ford if I'm not mistaken.

    Re: Issues With Velar

I love my Range Rover Sport (the Velar has the same body but is not designed for off road use). Yes it is large but very safe(sit high on the road), smooth riding and quiet. The Evoque is a dog. No other word for it.enlightened

Smiley Do you mean it is slow? Unless you have the V8 version, all other versions are actually slower than the Evoque Si4 (240 hp). The 2019 Si4 does 0-100 kph (62 mph) in 7.2 seconds. Other than performance, you get what you pay for, the Evoque Black Edition is "only" 54k EUR (a similar non-edition car would be around 57k) and I pay only 350 EUR per month for the lease. Don't forget that this car is supposed to be mainly for my daughter, so I no complaints here. Smiley

I don't like anything about the Evoque. Thus a dog at least to me.

That said, A neighbor of mine pick up the exact car as yours and I believe its for his daughter as well. Since I'm essentially anti social, I didn't speak with him because I was concerned it might start a dialogue as in come over for dinner/or drink sometime.angryenlightened

I think it is a very good looking small SUV. Personally, I would have preferred the Range Rover Sport SVR of course but this is a different story. Smiley
