Two strong rumors I received a couple of days ago

    1. 997 Turbo S sometimes next year

    2. next 911 generation by 2011

Again, these are rumors, take them with a grain of salt.

Ron: Watch what you wish for. I am not so sure about the next '911'. It may look like a 911 in general, but will it be a genuine 911?

I base this on my analysis of the photos of its mule floating around, clearly showing a longer wheelbase - 100mm longer. Also based on the wish/need Porsche Motorsports has to homologate the next RSR as a low polar moment racer...  think more like a super Cayman in 911 clothes.

Re: Two strong rumors I received a couple of days ago

This would make very much sense:

    - 997TTS approx. 12 months before launch of 991 in 2011 (i.e. similar timing as in case of the 996TTS)

    - GT2 FL at the same time (GT2 @ 550-560hp; 997TTS @ 520-530hp) - this would be 3 years after launch of 997GT2 in fall 2007 (i.e. the usual FL pattern at Porsche)

Ron - I guess I was hoping for a replay of 1995 when the car looked mostly the same (but better) and there was a performance increase and price decrease.  Guess those days are over?

There will be no 991 in 2010 - they will launch the new Cayenne in 2010...

Re: Two strong rumors I received a couple of days ago

So it seems nothing has changed then. the original rumor was that there would be a new 911in 2011.

Re: Two strong rumors I received a couple of days ago

Yep, the 991 comes in 2011, not 2010. Next year is the year of the new Cayenne and one "little" surprise.

Btw: all this CRAP some publications claim regarding abandoning the Cayenne & Panamera, reducing production, etc. is complete BULL.

On the contrary, Porsche plans to extend production, VW has already put some numbers out, I'm curious if they're realistic.

In the pipeline: a smaller Cayenne based on the VW Tiguan/Audi Q5 platform. A hybrid or even fully electrical 911. A model below the Boxster. A Boxster RS and/or Cayman RS. Panamera with long wheel base (still not sure). Panamera Coupe.

Does this sound like Porsche abandoning the Cayenne and Panamera and reducing production?!

Hey RC! Did you say a "Panamera with a long wheel base"?

Good grief! How long do they want to make this car? Stretch limousine?

Little 2010 surprise...Panamera Coupe? "Little" Boxster? Smiley

Tiguan shares platform with Golf/A3, not Q5

Re: Two strong rumors I received a couple of days ago

Sorry, a family friend just bought a Tiguan and wanted actually the Q5 (delivery time too long), so I "mentally" combined both. Sorry again.

There will be a Q3 soon based on the Tiguan.

It's not where you're going, it's how you get there that counts

Re: Two strong rumors I received a couple of days ago

I would imagine the 'little' surprise is a baby Cayenne based off the Q5 platform. Just logical to think Piech would want to spread his platform sharing scheme further.

And now that Piech has sunk his evil claws into Porsche, I would not be surprised to see the next gen 911 based off the golf platform, he would just reverse the whole thing, just slap the 911 bodywork backwards onto the fwd platform.

Quite possibly he would also re-badged and re-body the next gen TT into the next gen Cayman/Boxster.

I have completely lost faith in the Porsche product line now that Piech won the power struggle, I had hopes for getting a Panamera but after seeing it in real life last week, the car is too ugly because of the stretched roof, and the proportions are quite screwed up because they made it such a big car, only thing Porsche did right was the interior, the dash layout is pretty much second to none, but it still can't make up for the exterior. With that disappointment out of the way I was going to get a Cayenne Turbo instead because of the bigger more useful trunk but in the end I didn't want to give Piech any more of my hard earned dollars, I had given him more than enough already. That new X5/6M is quite tempting atm. Kick ass performance with a cheap price tag.

Re: Two strong rumors I received a couple of days ago

Maybe it is my bias regarding Porsche, but I honestly feel they have lost momentum in the sport car market. Minimal changes with the usual price increases. This has been going on for generations. I know they are conservative in their product approach but I truly believe they need something dramatic to kick start the company again.

Maybe it is just me but Porsche products do not excite or stimulate. THEY HAVE LOST THE PASSION.

Don't worry too much: Piech owned 49.9% of Porsche already before all the recent changes happened... His presence in Zuffenhausen is nothing new Smiley

While I understand your perspective I would argue that you need to drive these Porsche cars on a daily basis to really feel and admire them. They are perfect - like a great Bordeau from one of the best vintages. The Ferraris are more like great Barolos from one of the best vintages Smiley Both is the best you can get - still very different Smiley

Re: Two strong rumors I received a couple of days ago

Nick for the most part I agree with you. A drive in the 997.2 GT3 restored my faith  It seems the GT cars are the only true Porsches these days...

My teeny little mind has already wandered off to Aston Martin and GASPS!! Ferrari. I keep hearing voices coming from a snow white DBS..............And my brother-in-law have been floating the idea of selling his 599, he just had twins and they won't fit in the trunk. Some kind of timing.

Re: Two strong rumors I received a couple of days ago

For the ultimate GT car I don't see anything that can match the exclusivity and performance of the 599 HGTE. Astons really do nothing for me besides their sexy looks and sound. Before you give up on Porsche, drive a GT3.

SmileySmileySmiley When I recently brought my GT3 to the PZ for a  service, they gave me a plain jane 997 as a loaner. I was bored to death and the wifey said: I would never ever prefer this car over the Boxster S Smiley
