New GT3/2 too loud on some tracks?

    Last friday, I test drove two GT3 on the track : a GT3 996 MY 2005 and a new GT3 MY 2010.

With the new GT3, I was measured at 103 db by the security guy and was banned from the track because the maximum allowed noise is 95 Db. The 996 was OK (93 Db). For me, being banned from the track because of too much noise is a deal breaker.

    What about your experiences?

    Where was that ?

    Just incredible !!!!!

On the N'Ring there are hundreds of Gt3 and no problems . They are talking about installing noise controls very soon. We will see what happens.

My bro drives his Gt3 on many tracks in France and Germany and never had any problems.

I will be on Bresse in about 3 weeks and will check it out, as there there is sign ( max 95 db ) but before there was never  a problem even when loud Scuderias or GT3 were driving.

The GT3 passes our swiss noise controls , so one CAN drive it without making too much noise. You just need to pass in front of the noise control with the exhaust  put on ' silence' and not rev too much

Same at the 'Ring. Of course it depends on the noise measurement method (with the car standing and just reving the engine in neutral at 75% of max rpm noise level is at 108 db(A). More relevant number would be measured at full load on the track - we"ll see what happens once they install the appropriate measurement device at the "Ring Smiley

You can modify the exhaust flaps so they stay closed all the time at the touch of a button, no problems with noise-limits that way. Smiley

What I would really like to know, is your feedback regarding performace diference between these two beautiful beasts

    Useless. The MY2005 996 GT3 stands not even a little chance vs. the MY2010 997 GT3.

Re: New GT3/2 too loud on some tracks?

Even if RC thinks my comment would be useless, here my opinion :

I was on the Lignières track in Switzerland, 10 km from Neuchâtel, short (1.8km) and very curvy (1 to 3. gear). The track just reopened after a few years of modernizing. It is open for club sport and testing.

On normal roads, the 997 is light years more comfortable, the torque is much  better at low rev and the noise in the car is much lower. I bumped two times with the front, so the front lip had to be changed. The front lift is a must, but it is available only onto 50 km.

On the track, the 997 is much faster, easy to drive. PASM and PSM help a lot without loss of time, but....but the 996, without PSM, is much more sexy to drive when it slides around a very curvy track. The 996 with low milage costs less than half of the new 997.

I have to check the noise problem. If it can be solved, I would go for de 997 because I do not like the others to turn around me on the track Smiley,  because I want to drive the car on normal roads quite often (no GT3 RS) and, last but not least, the 996 has no chance when speaking about design.

    Cheers Carlos
