Toto.... We're Not In Kansas Anymore!!!!!!!!

Picked up my new 997S Cab this afternoon and preceeded to rack up about 150 miles. All I have to say is UNFU$%^&%$#ing credible!!!!! After driving a 996 for the last 4 years and cant even believe the differencr between the two!!! The 997S makes the 996 feel like a Yugo!!! I might be a bit off as I've been driving a SUV (a fast one though) for the last 6 months, but I truly cant remember having this much fun in the 996.

The clutch is like butter, the brakes sooooo much more responsive..... and step on the gas...... HOLY SH%^%$#!!!!!

Now for the bad news!!!! After driving for about an hour I pulled into the gas station to grab a soda and noticed the transmittion wouldnt go into reverse. I called the dealer who though I was crazy!!! Luckily the Service Mgr lives a few town away and met me in town. The look on his face was priceless as he tried and tried and tried but all to no avail. Tomorrow they will flatbed the car in and hopefully its just a quick fix. Funny thing was I watched them back the car out of the dealer just an hour before and there was no problem!?!?!?!?

Despite this one issue this has to be the 2nd greatest 100K I've ever spent -- Legal fees to get rid of my wife just beats it!!!!

Here's a pic as a tease for all you people in the USA waiting ever so patiently for yours to arrive. I will post a few more shortly. Sorry about the quality -- only had a phone handy. Cant see the true beauty of the Midnight Blue!!!

Guess this is the consequence of getting a 1st year model.

Re: Toto.... We're Not In Kansas Anymore!!!!!!!!

    nice!!!

Re: Toto.... We're Not In Kansas Anymore!!!!!!!!

    Awesome write up!

Re: Toto.... We're Not In Kansas Anymore!!!!!!!!

hey, i think that not being able to select reverse problem is no big deal man!

I think that sixtynineboss (i think thats his SN here) had that problem, and i believe its no big deal, its a connection problem from the gear selector and the tranny, not the actually tranny, so dont worry i bet its not big deal!

    Have fun!

Re: Toto.... We're Not In Kansas Anymore!!!!!!!!

Would have thought that the reverse gear cannot be engaged probleb would have been sorted out by now.
There was a TSB issued in Dec covering that problem... (TSB 2/04 3414)
A quick & easy fix however

Are you sure your Ex has nothing to do with it .

    Beautiful car, enjoy it .

Re: Toto.... We're Not In Kansas Anymore!!!!!!!!

    Nice car. Enjoy.

Re: Toto.... We're Not In Kansas Anymore!!!!!!!!

man what the hell is wrong with porsche, they should know better than to let their quality slip like it has. did they not learn anything from watching mercedes quality fall?

Re: Toto.... We're Not In Kansas Anymore!!!!!!!!

Congrats, nice pic (apart from the quality), HOpe the issue is sorted quickly for you...

Re: Toto.... We're Not In Kansas Anymore!!!!!!!!

Minor interruption that's a quick fix, but I agree with the legal fees. Marriage is like taking a hot bath, once you get used to it, it's not so hot! Enjoy!

Re: Toto.... We're Not In Kansas Anymore!!!!!!!!

    CONGRATULATIONS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
When you get a better camera you have to put in loads more pics.

Re: Toto.... We're Not In Kansas Anymore!!!!!!!!

    Sweet color combo.

    Congrats!

Re: Toto.... We're Not In Kansas Anymore!!!!!!!!

I had the same exact thing happen. Watched my car be BACKED off the hauler, the dealer drove it in for pre-delivery processes, backed it out for a wash, backed it out and pulled it up front, and I took delivery. Drove 4 miles back to my business, and had no friggin reverse gear, PERIOD, no matter what I did. How in hell does it work at the factory, onto the boat, off the boat, through the dealer, and then be "out of adjustment" once I drive it??? Who the fu** knows.....All I know is that they had to pull up the console, adjust a cable, and it's been smooth sailing (forward AND backward) ever since.

Re: Toto.... We're Not In Kansas Anymore!!!!!!!!

all fixed.... hey, was a good excuse to go for a drive today anyway!!!

    So what was the fix?

Re: Toto.... We're Not In Kansas Anymore!!!!!!!!

just as 69bossnine says...... they pulled the console, adjusted some cables and VOILA

Re: Toto.... We're Not In Kansas Anymore!!!!!!!!

There's nothing more demoralizing than opening the door to your brand spanking new $90K Porsche in the morning, sticking your foot out, and pushing your way out of the garage!!! LOL!!!!! Been there done that....... Thank goodness that precision engineering allows for low rolling resistance!

LOL. I had a few of my neighbors out this morning walking their dogs and they were watching me push it out..... I told them I couldnt afford the 20K option for reverse!!!

Man that's something I've noticed. When stopped... even on what I think are flat roads, the car will often start to roll if I don't keep my foot on the brake!!

Re: Toto.... We're Not In Kansas Anymore!!!!!!!!

Nice to know when something's defective, never mind you can allways push it ! Those germans, how smart they are : they've made it with low rolling resistance ! Thank you Porsche to care us so sweetly... Don't need big muscles, push it gently with two fingers, and have a nice drive !
