Drop the sport chrono plus. Adds no value or function, particular if you dont do track.

Doesn't the throttle mapping change with SC?

NO! This is a GT3 and not the normal 911. People always ask the same question. You still get the Sport button which changes the mapping, etc. if you dont select the SC. Ugly beast, that clock Smiley

Thank you for the info Smiley

My dealer just sent me the Porsche product news on lithium battery.  It sounds like it is superior to a normal battery for daily use in every way (except cost obviously), and can be changed to a lead battery easily.  Is it possible to post PDF files here so I can show you guys?

The Porsche configurator states (in German):

Lithium-Ionen-Fahrzeugbatterie (18 Ah) zusätzlich beigelegt. Zum Einsatz z.B. auf der Rundstrecke anstelle der serienmäßigen Fahrzeugbatterie mit einem Gewichtsvorteil von über10 kg. Hinweis: Eingeschränkte Funktion bei Temperaturen unter 0°C. Anmerkung: Frühestens verfügbar ab 1/2010,

In essence they say that the battery is provided in addition to the normal battery, that the lithium battery can be quickly installed when you go to the track and that it does not function properly at temperatures below 0°C. Thus, they do not recommend it for regular use - they see at as a special item which you quickly install on the track Smiley

Well, we are talking Australia here.  We don't get anywhere near 0 degrees!  Coldest we get during the day is about 10-12 degrees, and 6-8 degrees at night.  And that is very extreme!  We would have more concerned about hot weather than cold to be honest.  Anyway, here is the Porsche products news on the Lithium battery that my dealer sent me.  Sounds like a good battery to use daily doesn't it?

    Re: New GT3 order

Oh and btw, I hate the SC timer as much as most here.  I wanted SC on my Spyder, but when told I can't have the timer deleted, I chose to forego that option!  I will get an aftermarket ECU map instead for the same benefits as the SC.

Someone above said meteor is not a nice colour on the GT3.  Can someone tell me what colour this is on this video?  I am assuming this is meteor?

It's Meteor and very nice for that.

However, some people believe that a GT3 must have a more "minimal" look with non-metallic classic colours like white, light blue, yellow etc. to distance the appearance further from normal 911s.

    A matter of taste really.

Are you 100% sure it's meteor?  If it is, we are sticking to that colour!

These pictures are Meteor, for comparison and confirmation.

Also IMO with this colour the wheels are nice to be painted in the same colour with the outer ring in silver.

    Re: New GT3 order

Thanks Reginos.  I think it is the same colour as the Dutch video indeed.  Great news!

    Re: New GT3 order

Yes, it is Meteor and is actually very, very nice on the GT3, especially with the Titanium colored wheels and Natural Grey leather. Stunning!

    Re: New GT3 order

Thanks all for your input.  The build has now been confirmed and locked in (June build although this could be delayed due to some of the options).  My friend and I have agreed to swap our new cars regularly (I have a Boxster Spyder that is being built as we speak) so i am just as excited about this car as he is!

    Re: New GT3 order

You will LOVE the GT3, total sensory overload, and what a SOUND! I am so sad that my Dad sold his, I need a drink...

    Re: New GT3 order

    FFaust:

    - Alcantara thicker steering wheel, the nicest wheel available IMHO

    - Front lift is nice to have

    - Sport Chrono is very polarizing: Some folks hate it, and some love it. Personally, I think it's ok and it's cheap. I have it in my C2S and the throttle is noticeably more responsive when I hit "Sport" button. I'm not 100% certain that this is a function of the Sport Chrono or SPASM, but it makes a BIG difference (maybe it's the SC that adds the S in SPASM? All these options confuse me )

    - PCCBs undeniably reduce unsprung weight so that's a plus. Track guys seem to go either way for wear and feel; the steels are excellent and do not seem to fade if proper fluid is used (at least not until the most extreme conditions are encountered). In this case, as you friend is treating himself to a nice automobile, why not go for it. They are a "nice to have" option.

I ordered the alcantara thicker wheel on my RS, its better than the standard one - but on the RS they forgot to add the yellow centre marker with it!

The front lifter on the car is a must - it's a real impossible pain without it.

SC is just a silly clock in the GT3 and RS that no one seems to be getting.

The engine mounts are better for the street AND the track.  On the street they noticably make the car idle in a smoother fashion (rather than rumbling the whole car)

I don't know if the seats were mentioned (but I saw Porsche logo on headrest) - but the standard RS seats (which are the an option in the GT3 are lovely and the carbon fibre backing looks the part too).

For PCCB i think the lower number above is a typo - i know of some GT3s with them that have done 5,000 km on the track and have no issues so far.

    Re: New GT3 order

Jay, the RS seat is what is ordered.  Originally we had gone for the Carrera GT seats, but the lack of side airbag was offputting so it was changed.

Btw, where in Australia are you?  You have picked up a RS here already?  Must be a really early car.  I did see one at my dealership awaiting delivery so I guess they are here now.

    Re: New GT3 order

Hi - I got the car two weeks back.  It seems though Jim Richards got his car and used it in Targa so his must have been the first here - I don't know if they airfreighted it as mine was an early march production.  Story on SMH:

    smh.drive.com.au/motor-news/first-drive-porsche-gt3-rs-20100520-vgda.html

    SMH writes"

The GT3 RS, in fact, is missing only one key ingredient: a professional racing driver. Fortunately, touring car legend Jim Richards is on hand at the launch to better demonstrate the car's extraordinary abilities in his new RS that's still fresh from an outing in Targa Tasmania.

And, yes, Jim didn't tick the boxes for air-con, radio or cupholders.

    Re: New GT3 order

Yes, Jim's car was the first. But he is semi sponsored by Porsche so he got his before anyone else. My dealer which is a factory store delivers all his cars. He has a GT2 RS coming too.
