Aside from the known future Carrera and Carrera S (both with receive smaller displacement Turbocharged Flat-6's), I'd be interested to hear any more rumors of a natually aspirated manual gearbox 911 (possibly with GT3 motor), narrow hips, and rear seats.  Some have suggested such a car might revive a hallowed old name like 911R (50th anniversary in Model Year 2017) or even Carrera RS.

Let's also post more data and photos of the rest of the range...

Looks good - Kreso, can you report again what engine size and power/tq you expect for Carrera, Carrera S, and Powerkit please?

    Thanks!

    991.2 Carrera 370ps/450Nm

    991.2 Carrera S 420ps/510Nm

Power kit is rumored at 450ps/550Nm

    Numbers are not final.

    Christian,

Jeantet probably ment 960 or 961, mid engine supercar.

IF Porsche decide to build 960 it will be positioned in Aventador class. So, final answer is no, there won't be a direct mid engine  488 GTB competitor from Porsche.

Regarding 991.2 Turbo S it will be a direct competitor for R8 V10 Plus, Huracan or 570S, not for 488 GTB or 650S.

Re: 991.2 and future models Thread Closed

I cannot believe that the VW Group will not have a car to rival the 488 or the 650 price and performance wise. With their  collective engineering know how and the enormous parts bin it will be a very easy task provided that the numbers justify such a project.

Re: 991.2 and future models Thread Closed

Problem is way too high prices of 991(and forthcoming 991.2) range.

For example 991 Turbo S with full options is priced almost at the same level as Huracan. Both R8 V10 Plus and 570S are cheaper and faster. New 488 GTB is around 10K € only more expensive then 991 Turbo S with similar options.

Of course Porsche will sell tons of 991.2 models because their buyers want 911. But, they need to be very careful since I can not justify 991 range prices at all, apart from 991 GT3. And I am not the only Porsche fan that is tired of this milking trend...

Re: 991.2 and future models Thread Closed

I'm paying a very high price for the special edition targa with power upgrades, houndstooth cloth seats, stitching etc etc.

i did question my sanity and for a while thought about the mclaren 570.

in the real world, as much as i would like to enjoy the mclaren theres no way it could be my daily driver and same goes for the lamborghini (which isn't really my cup of tea)

real world meaning drive to office with possibility of clients seeing, supermarket visits etc etc.

also i think the targa is one of the best looking cars on the road today and i buy into the styling ( no point mentioning the drive as this will be my third porsche and i love the driving experience)

Re: 991.2 and future models Thread Closed

I would choose then 991 Turbo coupe as daily sportscar driver. Yes, basic 991 Turbo, not the S version. With some nice options price would be still within normal limits. Car is very capable on every kind of weather, could be used in city at normal speed etc.

Yes, some provide more performance, more sound and more thrill but, as a package 991 Turbo is still the winner, despite its price tag.

I see your point about the pricing of the 911 range.

However, Porsche could offer the hypothetical 960 in parallel with the 911 Turbo S at a slightly higher price at the 488/650 level. Notwithstanding any performance similarities on paper these two Porsche models would feel different and appeal to different buyers or both cars could be bought by the same client for different purposes.

The 960 would add great prestige to the Porsche range. It would be great to announce the 960 about now just after the Le Mans victory. A Flat 8 turbo with a simpler hybrid drive (compared to the 918).

    It won't happened.

Bigger chances are for 992 GT2 hybrid.

You are forgetting one thing, Porsche won't offer models in parallel. That from several poins of view do not make any sense for them.

True. The last time was in the 1980s when the 944 Turbo and the 911 Carrera 3.2 had the same performance.

It's amazing, there are a LOT of Porsches in Toronto (something around more than 2,000 in the general vicinity, case in point I think I saw 7-8 on my 10 minute drive to work this morning). You see a LOT of 996 Turbos and a fair number of 997 Turbos and 991 Turbos? I think I saw one last month...

Porsche would be better served both from a competition as well as sales perspective to price a 911 Turbo at the same price as the GT3, NOT have a Turbo S and instead do a 960 for $100 more. In Canada that would mean a $150k Turbo and a $250k 960.

The thing that annoys me the most of the current 911 generation, and presumably of its FL, is the headlight design when you have a side view of the car.

It isn't as bad as the fried egg in the 996 but that kind of goldfish pop eye silhouette it's too weird for me as it makes look the frontal really short.

Re: 991.2 and future models Thread Closed

Apparently my tastes are more in sync with Porsche's designers' than everyone's. I think the headlights on the 991 are perfection. Of course, I think the so-called "hump" on the Panamera looks great too. (And it gives the Panamera a distinct character that is sorely lacking in most sedans.)

Re: 991.2 and future models Thread Closed

This paragraph makes no sense - does anyone read the translations?

Porsche's research and development boss Dr Wolfgang Hatz also confirmed a hybrid 911 is a go and he prefers to use a naturally aspirated engine rather than a turbocharged mill. Even though the car will end up with a higher weight compared to a conventional-powered version, the added bulk will be offset by a higher total output.

That paragraph makes no sense at all. Wolfgang Hatz does not have a doctorate degree.

Can't believe they can even sell Turbos these days. Most overpriced car on the market by a mile.

True but also best daily driver super sportscar on the market and buyers know that. Smiley

Another advantage, especially for business owners in Germany: The Turbo S looks like a 911, not like an exotic.

As far as I know over 90% of new Porsche 911 cars are registered to businesses here in Germany and the German tax office usually accepts them as business cars, much easier than exotics for example.

Personally, I expect a real 911 Turbo monster with the next generation (992) since Porsche will introduce completely new engines and tech.

I actually don't think the 911 Turbo is  as successful as it's made out to be. How many do they sell each year? 3000 maybe?

I don't have a clue how many they sell but I know that many owners are disappointed with the exhaust sound, some even switched to a Carrera GTS like I did. Others went for a Ferrari 458 Speciale or Lamborghini Huracan.

Most happy owners are using the car on a daily basis.
