    Cobalt w/cocoa?

Anyone here have or ever seen a cobalt with cocoa interior? What do you think?

    Re: Cobalt w/cocoa?

Have never heard of anyone with that combo, which may tell you something. Get what you want but I think there are better combo's.

    Re: Cobalt w/cocoa?

    One word: NO.

Many words: Cocoa (chocolate brown with verdigris marbling) only works with "neutral" exterior colors (black, white, and the greys). Cobalt is a vivid color, it does not work.

With a Cobalt exterior, you need either a neutral interior color (black, natural grey, stone grey or bicolor black/stone), a contrasting color that goes with blue (sand beige, natural brown, bicolor black/sand), or blue on blue.
I.e. any color but Carrera Red, Terracotta, or Cocoa.

By the way Cobalt blue is getting discontinued next month, so if you plan to special-order your car, it's too late already.

    Re: Cobalt w/cocoa?

IMO, you should see the Cocoa in person first. For some crazy reason most photos of Cocoa suck. The reality is muuuuuch better.

Cobalt and sand beige(?) looks pretty good (see photo below, it's all I have pertaining to your question). So my bet is Cocoa and Cobalt would look nice too. Matter of fact I think lighter color interiors are better for sunny bright places. Since it's darker Cocoa might be real nice for the Northern latitudes where you're at.

    Oops!

The Groom got his post in one minute before I did. Now I'm too lazy to delete or edit mine.

    Re: Cobalt w/cocoa?

I don't know if I'm that much of an arbitre des élégances on this board.

IMHO you can't get wrong pairing two neutral colors together. If you want to pair a vivid color with a neutral color, it works in most cases. But if you want to pair two vivid or unconventional colors together, it gets tricky. It means walking the thin line between class and kitsch.

    Your options are pretty much:
    - color on color (ocean blue leather, cobalt blue paint)
    - classic contrasting color pair (beige leather, blue or green paint)
    - and the best of the best, contrasting pair where the interior color is the secondary tone of the exterior color (e.g. slate/terracotta, GT silver/carrera red, glacier white/ocean blue, polar silver/ocean blue, or the rare caffe latte/cocoa. Of course, it only works with complex exterior colors that have a secondary tone (not the case with Cobalt).

    Re: Cobalt w/cocoa?

Thanks for all the responses guys, I think you all are right. I have seen the cocoa interior in person and love it (but have not seen cobalt, and seeing its being discontinued, I guess its out)...so i guess i will have to change the exterior...

There are only 2 with that interior and tip in the country, one is GT silver the other is macadamia so i will most likely end up special ordering...I like the GT sliver but have a silver car already and don't want another...

Another option my wife had mentioned was that orange type color they keep posting of the targa models (think its called Nordic gold.)

Ill keep you posted and post pics of the macadamia later today when i get back form the dealer...

The #1 question is which do you want most: Cobalt or cocoa?

If you want Cobalt, there's still some hope... if you hurry up. But please don't order Cocoa with Cobalt.

If you want Cocoa, you have more time to think about what exterior color to get. From your alternative color choices, I gather you want a striking exterior color. May I suggest white? It goes very well with cocoa, and it's kinda the fashionable color to get nowadays.

Yes, it's Nordic Gold. Nice color. But expensive, and it delays production by 6 months.

If you go that route you're pretty much stuck with either black or natural grey inside.

IMHO cocoa top with macadamia OK, cocoa interior not so much. With macadamia, I'd suggest sand beige or bicolor black/sand. But I generally suscribe to the interior/exterior contrast theory.

    Re: Cobalt w/cocoa?

YES I HAVE: IT's STUNNING in real life! If you're considering it go get it. It think this combo (cobalt with cocoa)
is one of the nicest out there. It creates such nice contrast and its both usable...

Lapis Blue, a standard metallic color, has been around a while, it looks like a darker version of CB.

    Re: Cobalt w/cocoa?

    HELL NO.

    Re: Cobalt w/cocoa?

Lapis blue was downgraded to special-order for MY07 and dropped one year later. I don't think it'll be back any time soon. It's like palm green leather. Standard color for as long as I can remember, but nobody wanted it.

On the other hand, cobalt blue was upgraded to standard metallic color for MY07 (was special-order before) because of popular demand. I bet we'll get a similar color next year.

Awwwwgggh! Sorry. I have to shut up. I flipped thru three or four different Porsche brochures I have behind me and they all had Lapis blue in their color charts. Like a fool I didn't realize the brochures I have only go to 2006 (?!) models.

    Re: Cobalt w/cocoa?

I keep my documentation up to date.

A color combo mentioned in imcarnuts's thread is Slate with cocoa. Great looking combo, as it fits the "secondary tone" theory (although IMHO terracotta works even better).
Unfortunately, Slate grey is getting phased out next month as well. It was expensive enough already (special order), but it's getting worse (paint to sample)...

    Re: Cobalt w/cocoa?

    The Groom,

Your comments on this thread gave me a chuckle. My thoughts on automobile color "theories" are remarkably similar to yours.

    Kamal,

IMHO, as the Groom stated, first question to ask would be whether you want Cobalt Exterior or Cocoa Interior. I too think they are exclusive of one another. I know some Porsche nut who is crazy about Cocoa so I've seen numerous combinations and consider myself an expert on this color.

Second, I too believe in some contrast between int. & ext colors. Therefore, if you want Cocoa Interior, then I would think the best match is some light color exterior that is either neutral or has a slight shade of brown. IMHO, in order of decreasing preference:
    1. White
    1. (A tie at no. 1) Prosecco Metallic: This would be a special order color as it is a Cayenne exterior color. This is a metallic champagne like color, which I think would be perfect for the wife. The only problem is I seem to have read somewhere that special order color is not allowed for any order after February (someone please corrects me as needed).

If you must have a dark ext. color, then the one color that works well with Cocoa Int. is Slate Grey, because Slate has a brown tint.

If you want Cobalt Exterior, then to me you are limited to a Black or Grey Interior.

But, I do realize this is a matter of taste/personal preference, as long as you don't pick Orange, you can't be wrong. If you & the S.O. like Cobalt/Cocoa, then Cobalt/Cocoa it is. I didn't think the combination would work, but now that I think more about it, maybe it's alright. Someone above finds it spectacular!

We deff want the cocoa interior over anything else so we are considering everyones suggestions above...

Thanks again for the suggestions and will keep you all posted.

    Re: Cobalt w/cocoa?

Well, I currently have a temporary loaner steering wheel while my Techart steering wheel is getting restitched. They used the wrong color stitching (dark grey instead of light grey like the OEM stitching should be). And the loaner wheel just happens to be cocoa brown and I can tell you that it definitely does NOT go well with Cobalt blue.

    Cocoa brown wheel

Don't mind the horrible splotches on my leather seat. I was getting them cleaned up. Too much conditioner!

    Re: Cobalt w/cocoa?

OHHHH...well thanks for the pic...that settles that.

    Re: Cobalt w/cocoa?

THAT settles it. Nice work Atomic80.

    Re: Cobalt w/cocoa?

    So, it's cocoa you want.
If you want a dark color, hurry up and order slate while it's available.
If you want a light color, order white or GT silver.

I don't like cocoa with macadamia. It's an attempt at the "color on color" look, but it doesn't work (IMHO) because the secondary tones clash.

Well, if you do like the car the dealer showed you, then get it, at least it's here right now instead of in 6 months.
(although a dealer somewhere probably has a silver/cocoa car (common combo) coming soon)

    Re: Cobalt w/cocoa?

I also seriously considered Cobalt with Cocoa as you see from my previous post. I was attempting to make one of my favorite exterior colors work with my favorite interior. I still think it MAY work but decided to be safe. Then it came down to what was more important to me - one of my favorite exterior colors or my favorite interior. Since what I see the most while driving is the interior, I let it take precedence.

    GT Silver with cocoa.

If considering this combination, I will attempt to take some better pictures showing the interior/exterior combined. Some pics of the cocoa interior here.

    Re: Cobalt w/cocoa?

Thanks for all the input guys...

Finally came to a decision last night and we decided to stay away from the macadamia/cocoa...figured if we had to think about the color this long that it was most likely not the color for us...

We are sticking with the cocoa interior and are going to take a look at what midnight blue looks like as well as slate gray...

Duffy: your gt silver looks great but is too close to the color my infiniti FX is, thanks for the pic.

Will most likely end up placing an order tomorrow ...Ill post specs as soon as I decide.

    Re: Cobalt w/cocoa?

Don't do midnight blue + cocoa either. I like blue and I like cocoa, but they don't get along. I suggest (once again ) either white or slate (since silver is apparently out).

    Re: Cobalt w/cocoa?

There was an order for a Carrera 4S some time back in Cobalt with natural brown. It is stunning. Check that combo out.

    Dan

    Re: Cobalt w/cocoa?

    Cobalt and cocoa? naaaa!

I prefer sand beige or if yu really want cocoa buy another exterior color.!

I know exactly what you mean - I seriously considered Meteor but have a Flint Grey S550. Meteor and Flint are close. With Atomic80 & The Groom, you have the "option Gurus" working for you.
