    2 questions...

    2 Questions guys...
    1. PSE. When the PSE is off, is the sound still much louder than the standard exhaust? If so, does the sound become annoying when driven over longer distances.. There are no such problems with the standard exhaustIMO..
When the PSE is off, is the sound similiar to
    standard exhaust??

    2. Does the -20 suspension make a big difference to the stance of the car??? I didnt think such a small drop will but after seeing Carlos' recent pics of his blck cs, it seems asthough there is actually a substantial difference to how the car looks..

    Hope you guys can help...

    PSE...

Long drives are more fun... the sound really is more engaging than the stock.

When off... it sounds........................................boring after hearing it on

The stocks are good no doubt but I don't think I'll be going back anytime soon

This is entirely subjective but my opinion is that "PSE off" sounds exactly the same as if you didn't get PSE in the first place. I know because I've had no PSE for 8 months and then got it 2 weeks ago. I had switch capability for about 1 day so I compared the two.

    Re: 2 questions...

Thats just what i hoped... The stock exhaust is perfect for day to day driving without getting to tiresome... It isnt to loud when in the lower rpm ranges but gets nice and aggresive when the revs rise.
If that is the case with the PSE it will be perfect... Loud when you want it but also quieter, but still aggresive when its not needed.
    Thanks for the info guys..

    Re: 2 questions...

I am very familiar with the 996 PSE, so if it's similar my experience will help you, it's not exactly quiet at low revs, it always growl, but like Carlito wrote, if you carress the right pedal, the car can make itself almost discreet, although nothing like stock exhaust, which also sounds nice but very quiet I must say in low revs.

    Re: 2 questions...

I have the -20mm suspension and my father-in-law has the standard. Next to eachother my car looks a lot lower.

hi BC997, get the PSE, you won't regret it. I just recently installed my PSE(keep in mind to get it retrofitted is going to cost you around R24 000/$5500) and the sound compared to stock just isn't comparable! sounds like 2 different cars!
about the sound becoming annoying! NEVER, you must be gay (so to speak) if you start disliking it i liked it so much i actually disabled the sport button's ability to turn the exhaust on and off

i've yet to see a 997 with -20mm here, maybe i have already and just haven't noticed it the demo models are normally fully specc'd at the porsche showroom

I never got a chance to drive my S cab with the stock exhaust. If the stock exhaust sounds like my PSE when it's OFF then it would be way too quiet and boring for me.

    Re: 2 questions...

I'm with Alan, when the PSE is OFF it sound just like the standard exhaust. However, like Fanch mentioned, the PSE in the 997 is very throttle dependant, when cruising at constant speed s it quiets downs substantially to the point that you almost don't notice thats ON as long as you are bellow 4000RPM, but as soon as you press the pedal just a bit, such as in a slight uphill, you inmetiately start to hear the "growl". Its my impression that the poeple that get the PSE, inlcuding myself, at the beginning turn it off sometimes in some situations but once they get used to the PSE after a while they don't want to turn it off anymore anytime. With the stock sound its sounds there is something missing now.

As to the -20mm suspension, the drop is more noticeable that what one would think 10mm difference is. Maybe its because of the small profile of the tire side walls due to the large wheels enhances that effect, or because the 997 is 5 mm higher than the 996 we are used to. But its noticeable all right, and the standard suspension 997 looks like its going to the Paris Dakar in comparison.

    Re: 2 questions...

PSE $5500 !! Think I'll try playing cards in the spokes first.

Unless you're buying two then yes that would be the price.

    Re: 2 questions...

    Thanks for the input gents..
the reason i asked is that, if i decide on a Carrera, its gnna be my only + everyday car so i wouldn't want it to be too noisy when, eg im just going for a "sunday drive"..

    BTW windingroad.com has a comparison between a carrera S & a F430... f430 wins but why the hell compare those 2??? 2 cars in 2 different leagues.

Anyway, about the -20, i think i;ll rather opt for the PASM enabled car.. maybe im wrong but i'll assume that this car is more usable than the sports susp.+ i just like the fact that i can change the cars character whenever i want to..

@ jjr1 : any pics of the 2 next to each other???

As Mike said, you won't regret it, I also got it as retrofit, with the loudness modification on....so everytime the pse is in active.....too many words come to my mind when hearing the car in cold start and cruising...and annoying is not that word, I just love it!!!!!!
