Porsche Cayenne Powerkit - RECALL (07/2012)

Porsche recalls 1475 Panamera Turbo S, Turbo Powerkit and Cayenne Powerkit worldwide because of a possible serious issue with the installed "titan" turbochargers. The impeller can brake during operation, causing power loss, oil loss and blue oil fumes.

The turbochargers will be exchanged completely for new ones with Inconel impellers.

It takes around 11-15 hours to perform this exchange operation, so the car may be stuck at least 2 days at the dealership.

    The following model is affected:

Cayenne Turbo Powerkit  (production 27th January 2011 to 22nd May 2012)

Re: Porsche Cayenne Powerkit - RECALL (07/2012)

As the Cayenne turbo powerkit is again available in Switzerland, do you know what they changed on it.

Otherthing what is the different between turbo powerkit  and an upcoming Cayenne Turbo s.  Are the 10 hp difference just the ECU. . Will the Turbo s be equiped from beginning with the sportdesign package or is that also optional on the Turbo s.

Would be great if you have any imputs

Re: Porsche Cayenne Powerkit - RECALL (07/2012)

The new turbo chargers are using an Iconel impeller (compressor wheel) instead of one made of Ti/Al (titan).

I can't comment on the Cayenne Turbo S but I guess that yes, the difference is the ECU only...and maybe a better ventilation for the brakes (like on the Panamera Turbo S).

Judging Porsche from the past, I don't think the Sport Design package will be free of cost.

so if you spec a cayenne turbo with the WLS kit, torque vectoring etc. what would be than the benefit of buying a cayenne turbo S expect the ceramic brakes maybe, or would be a fully loaded cayenne turbo with Wls more expensive than a cayenne turbo S with the same specs,

Judging by your  experience what would you think.

Re: Porsche Cayenne Powerkit - RECALL (07/2012)

The benefit of a Turbo S would be the Turbo S marking all over the car (doorsills, speedo cluster, PCM, etc.), probably 10-20 hp more power and better brake ventilation. Since the Turbo S isn't out yet, it is difficult to speculate. I wouldn't expect anything sensational though and also keep in mind, that the Cayenne facelift is due 2014, so the Turbo basis model should get at least 20 horses more.

Re: Porsche Cayenne Powerkit - RECALL (07/2012)

So you could end up by getting the car end of this year with almost an old model due to the upcoming facelift..

and if the facelift model get at least an extra 20 horse power  and you would buy over that the WLS for the facelift turbo, you will be over the power output of the upcoming non facelift turbo s...

a little bit strange to bring out the turbo S just before the facelift where the base turbo gets even closer to the power of the turbo s

End of this year is 2012. Facelift is coming 2014 and I suppose not in January. Smiley

Don't try to think too much about the facelift.

I got my Panamera Turbo S in July and the facelift is expected next year (I actually know the date but I can't publish it for various reasons Smiley). So what? I wanted the car and now I drive it. If I have to wait for each and every facelift, I couldn't enjoy my cars.

My plan is: I drive the Panamera Turbo S until the next generation arrives around 2016, latest. This will be the perfect switch...if I am going to stick with the Panamera. Smiley

Re: Porsche Cayenne Powerkit - RECALL (07/2012)

haven't decided yet, but you are probably wright, not to much thinking, but the hope would still be that a facelift model doesn't give your current model an outdated look..

Re: Porsche Cayenne Powerkit - RECALL (07/2012)

Cayenne 2014 model facelift?  Oh boy, didn't see that coming,  My Cayenne GTS order locked today, its scheduled for October delivery. Haha, you guys should have  written this yesterday!  mail

Re: Porsche Cayenne Powerkit - RECALL (07/2012)

    Christian,

We see very significant facelifts with Porsche - like 997.1 and 997.2... will cayenne facelift be the facelift or very serious changes under the hood as well?

A facelift is a facelift. Don't expect anything sensational but there are changes, incl. performance enhancing ones.

The next Panamera Turbo will probably have the same (or almost the same) performance as my Turbo S. Do I care? Well, of course I care but I just can't wait and wait and wait, this wouldn't be very practical. I know that many people try to get it right, by getting a car in the first year of production or in the first year of the facelift, just to make sure they drive the latest model/technology but this would drive me nuts for sure.

I will drive another year or so until the facelift shows up and I will drive my car another three years with the facelift being available. Not really the most ideal situation but I'm in for the driving, not necessarily because I always want to have the latest model.

I don't think that the 997.1 to 997.2 move was very significant (from a customer point of view, not technically...PDK introduction, etc.), many people can't even tell the difference despite the LED rear lights and the different shape of the rear lights. The additional 30 horses are also something most people won't notice because you can't see it and many don't even care about naked performance numbers.

Re: Porsche Cayenne Powerkit - RECALL (07/2012)

How come that anyone these days can be surprised by a forthcoming facelift?! It's imminent with German cars- after 3 or 4 years of production, there comes the facelift...

Re: Porsche Cayenne Powerkit - RECALL (07/2012)

We are still holding out for the Turbo S to be annouced (to replace my wife's original '06 Turbo S).

Both of the UK dealers that I use are saying that they have been told of 2 model addtions in the pipeline for announcement in August but have not been told if that will be the V8 diesel for the Cayenne or Panamera OR the Cayenne Turbo S. Both of them said, 'the time is now right to produce the Turbo S'.

The turbo charger (titan) quirks have been sorted out, so yes, the Turbo S could be a go this year but I rather think that the more powerful Diesel has priority right now since the Diesel models of the Cayenne and Panamera sell best.

Re: Porsche Cayenne Powerkit - RECALL (07/2012)

Cayenne V8 Diesel would be a very interesting car, if it has at least 350 hp...

Re: Porsche Cayenne Powerkit - RECALL (07/2012)

    Christian,

I agree with you, its impossible to wait forever! Right you are that have already bpought the car. And Turbo S is Turbo S.

    Though your car is fantastic!

Could you pls deliver your opinion on the toughness of seats in Panamera? Are they sport or comfort? I mean is it possible to drive the car for more than 3 hours without the back being tired?

Re: Porsche Cayenne Powerkit - RECALL (07/2012)

it must be the 313hp bi turbo V6 in the Audi A6 that will become the Cayenne/Panamera Diesel S

Re: Porsche Cayenne Powerkit - RECALL (07/2012)

     313 hp...Not a lot:((

Re: Porsche Cayenne Powerkit - RECALL (07/2012)

    ....but tons of torque!
