GT3 RS not available in USA... reason?

Hi RC, Ron and all. I have been looking at some of the photos and reading the specs on the GT3 RS and of course would love to have one. Why is this model not being offered to the US market?

Because, there are too many people like this?

Re: GT3 RS not available in USA... reason?

Spider - It's due to the US DOT standards. Things like roll cage and plastic windows wouldn't pass muster

That guy should have ditched Porsche entirely, and strolled over to his Ford, Lincoln, Mercury dealer for a nice new Crown Victoria.

Cayenne is the answer for that guy.

After reading the review, seem like the GT3 is exactly the car I want.

Re: Cayenne is the answer for that guy.

Radar, thanks a lot for your link - reading is better than sex - lol

Re: Cayenne is the answer for that guy.

Porsche should have a "Manhattan Door Policy" for the GT3 and preferably for most of their vehicles.
For those of you who don't know what an MDP is, it is a policy where people who deserve to "get in" get in.
    Get it?

Porsche has already made a Porsche for people like them, its called the Boxster and Cayenne, stick to it and leave the GT3 to people who know what a sports car really.

Re: GT3 RS not available in USA... reason?

Between Porsche marketing and the DOT, we appear to end up with the more mainstream products in the USA.

The sad thing is that the full-cage RS would provide an extra margin of safety for occupants of cars that are hit broadside by other vechicles. The airbag could be an addition to the bar, rather than an alternative to the bar.

The funniest post I read for months.
And actually the best advertising for the GT3.

Re: GT3 RS not available in USA... reason?

"spider" my freind, we will always get the watered down stuff here, I am sorry to say. The Europeans have no idea what they've got. Lets tyr to have fun with what we have here in the states, keep in mind that if you want a RS here in the states, "where there is a will there is a way!"

I suspect the responsibility for keeping the good stuff out of the US has to be shared between DOT and PMNA. DOT sets the safety standards and requires the car manufacturers to provide the testing to prove their vehicles meet the safety standards. So for PMNA to bring in a car with fixed back racing seats, a roll bar, 5 point harnesses, etc, they would have to crash test some additional cars and provide additional test data.

I'm sure this is time consuming and expensive, so PMNA says why bother because we won't get enough volume of these cars to make it worth our while. And besides, most of our customers are like mrcochrane and they'll complain the cars are too stiff or too hard to enter/exit or whatever.

I think the ultimate solution is to get some international safety standards, so the automakers don't have retest and document their cars for every different country. My understanding is that Germany's TuV is a pretty strict safety body. Why can't DOT agree to accept TuV certification instead of forcing the manufacturer to retest for the US market? I mean jeez, if the FIA has approved a seat or set of harnesses for use in racing, why isn't that good enough for DOT?

Maybe we need some kind of NAFTA deal on auto safety regulations.
