    3rd Service @ 47k miles

Got serviced last week. Car is 05 987S, owned from new, 47k miles.

Went for a Full service (though was only due a half one) plus spark plug change and brake fluid change.

Also needed new discs and pads all round as they were severely corroded and MOT failures. Pads were only half gone, but braking effort was much reduced and the brakes were rubbing audibly at 20mph and making horrible grinding/whirring noises on braking.

Also tech noticed three of the coils were cracking, two on one side one on the other. Replaced under warrantee.

Going in again on Friday for a pre-warrantee check, water pump replacement under warrantee (may be source of a noise), check on air con which may have a leak, and NS door seal seems broken.

Also had to get 2 new Michellin's for the back so I could swap to summer tyres again. (I got a screw in one before the winter, but fortunately this time both tires were worn through anyway.) Fitted at ProTyre for just under £500 the pair. (265 40 R18 N3). As usual Porsche were way over that, I think they wanted about £330 each. Smiley

Turning out to be an expensive month! £2k service+brakes, £500 tyres, £1k for year's warrantee. Unknown cost for non warrantee items on Friday.

Ask me again why I run one of these? Smiley

Or me - with all the work I've had done at home, (small extension for new en-suite bathroom, refit existing bathroom and cloakroom, buy surround sound system so I can chase wires into the wall before decorating the whole house which needs doing throughout now the builders have finished) I've hardly used mine at all this year.

Still got my overseas tour next week to look forward to - Isle of Wight for four days.... I'd promised myself a run over to Germany with Kinrara to see Porsche-jeck but looking iffy at the moment, just spent too much money at home and need to economise for a bit!

Still it is great to get out for a blast - no point selling as residuals are derisory anyway, which at least removes the temptation to waste more money changing.

Why didn't they do the pre-warranty check as part of the service - it's cheaper as the checks are routine service items!

You still up for a meet at Stourhead in a couple of weeks - let's say on Sunday 17th?

OUCH ,, this is when you do the math of the valuation of the car and the service cost..The cost does not come out a fair one when you take in to consideration age and miles of the car , imo , or am I just talking crap as usual....

Still , the tires were a good quotation...

You think that's bad - a friend of mine has a '98 Bentley Turbo R worth around £10k - just had a major service which cost nearly £6k! Smiley

BMW reduce the cost of servicing on cars more than 4 years old - their (very sensible) logic is to keep the service business with a BMW dealer at a reduced margin rather than lose the business altogether.

That'd be good. We've been meaning to get to Stourhead, but have been waiting for a fine weekend. Fingers crossed, eh?

Yeah, got a good deal on the Tyres. Still more than I paid last time around though.

Was offered around the £16k mark for trade-in. £46k new. Smiley Used values are actually strengthening a bit (apparently), as dealer used stock levels are low.

    Re: 3rd Service @ 47k miles + warranty work

Just as a follow on, I was booked in for some extra work yesterday.

Water pump replaced, apparently was leaking slightly from the bearing which was wearing and causing some noise. I think I read an old post somewhere about 986 pumps doing this. Why is this still a problem??

Also a component in the air con (I can't remember precisely which) was leaking slightly.

Both replaced under warranty, so that went some way to justifying the high-priced roadside assistance service!

Good news that it was all fixed under warranty

I wish PCGB introduced the equivalent of BMW Four Plus in the UK as well. Smiley Instead they have gone down the fixed price service route - fixing prices at the maximum labour charges of the most expensive dealers in the UK.

..which is just short sighted - all they achieve is customers going the specialist non-franchise route for servicing. Smiley

There's a lot less whine at 3krpm now.

It occurred to me that this fault could be responsible for the hearing loss that I reported a while ago.
