    Turbo Exhaust in UK

Hi, I'm just considering an exhaust upgrade for the turbo, and have a couple of questions...

Firstly is there a switchable system available like the PSE on the carrera's?

Secondly, what are my options in the UK?

I wanted a backbox only replacement ideally, but was told by DMS that isn't available (he didn't specify whether he meant by themselves or at all)....

So my fellow UK brothers (or sisters?) please let me know of my options, where they are, how they sound, and how much they cost?

    Thanks

    Re: Turbo Exhaust in UK

There a couple of switchable systems, sportec has one with electronic throttles. That one allegently has a quite reasonable sound in the low end and all hell breaks loose when you floor it.. Power gains should be up there since backpressure is really low (with the flaps open). There is at least another brand available but I am not sure which one it is..

    Re: Turbo Exhaust in UK

2 options as far as I am concerned...

    1) cargraphic exhaust (Parr)
    2) tubi exhaust (scuderia systems)

My medium loud CG exaust is sounding SERIOUSLY good in these Swiss tunnels!

    Re: Turbo Exhaust in UK

any idea's on prices? PM me if you'd rather not post publicly?

Also I want it to sound unintrusive at normal driving speeds

    Re: Turbo Exhaust in UK

My CG level 1 has unintrusive sound according to some people (still over 102db at 4500 revs though- problem for a lot of uk tracks) however it has a very annoying resonance between 2300-2800 rpm. CG is sending me 2 different silencers to try to solve that issue and I am trying them next week.
However if you want s switchable system then sportec or I think 9ff are 2 options to consider. The sportec one is much more expensive than the CG one, check their website.

    Re: Turbo Exhaust in UK

Tubi of the systems you mentioned, the best sound plus ZERO resonance.

    Re: Turbo Exhaust in UK

    GT,

I do not know if we are talking about the same thing, but allow me to share my experience, maybe it would save you some time. While I was trying to decide which exhaust to buy, I listened to 4 different exhaust systems over a number of months, some more than once, in different cars, and even made recordings. Not comprehensive but probably more extensive than most normal people (I am an audiophile and sound is of utmost importance.).

What I found might be relevant to your issue:
The stock Turbo itself has a resonance in the exact same range you mentioned, 2300-2800, at least for car with manual gear box. Hard to describe but its sound is more a hummm noise, versus the regular roar of an engine. In the stock Turbo, it's well suppressed, but it's there.

In my experience, any after-market exhaust system that is
    a. loud enough
    b. has enough low frequency component to make the car sounds "hefty"
*WILL* magnify this humm. I definitely heard this with 3 out of the 4 systems I tested, including the one I finally chose, Cargraphic. The one system that has the least hum in this range is too quiet for me and lacks the hefty low frequency rumbling that I so love. So maybe what you are hearing is just something to be expected with after-market exhaust? Have you listened to another Cargraphic Turbo?

    Re: Turbo Exhaust in UK

I vote for Tubi as well. Awesome system and worth every penny.

    Re: Turbo Exhaust in UK

Just saw your post caanga. Yes my observations are at par with yours. I ve heard the cargraphic level 2 and level 1 (mine) and they both had that "humm" noise, especially when they are running very hot.. Now I tried a supposedly even quieter version (different silencers) that RS tuning prepared for me (level 0? lol) and still its pretty much the same. Todate the only system that I ve heard that can achieve some power gains with no resonance was a converted stock exhaust with racing cats..
This worked very well on my 996tt up to 570 hp. I tried this on the 997tt and it generates too much heat when trying to run more power resulting to detonation, power loss etc etc. I am not sure whether the switcheable systems like sportec or 9ff have this same chatacteristic or not..
