    Cayenne S Manual Transmission?

I am going this sunday to look at ordering my 05 Cayenne S, but I still have an idea that the manual shift version would be more fun, and sporty (as well as faster 0-100 times, by 0.4s), but they dont have one at my dealer here, and they havent sold any "S" versions with manual shifts yet.

If anyone out there has any news, or experience of the Cayenne S
with a manual transmission, I would really like to hear your experience, before I make the final descision!

Manual more fun? Definetely. On a sports car? I wouldn't order something else. But on the Cayenne S? I don't know.
As much as I started to enjoy my Cayenne Turbo, it is no sports car by any means. It might be as fast as some of the so called sports cars out there but the excessive weight can be always felt.
I really enjoy driving fast, especially through twists and turns because the extra weight adds extra challenge and fun, as stupid this might sound.
But when I drive my Cayenne through the city or just with the family on the Autobahn, I really enjoy having an automatic gearbox which really is a MUST on such a powerful V8 engine. Unfortunately I don't like the throttle/shifting response of my auto tranny and I already made a complaint about it to Porsche. They're looking into it and hopefully they'll come up with a solution. But maybe I'm just "spoiled" by the fantastic auto tranny (Speedshift) in our second family car, the ML55 AMG.
If you're not used to driving a car with automatic transmission, the manual might be the better choice for you.
But I also like the auto tranny in winter time because I don't have to care to much about the clutch.
Not to speak about serious off-roading (which I don't do), I bet the auto tranny is the better choice for it.

    Re: Cayenne S Manual Transmission?

    Hi Toto,
I wouldn't hesitate a second to get a manual tranny. Let's look at the facts, this is a high performance car. The only occation it is perferrable to have an auto is when you are in a traffic jam. You will have to think on how you are going to use the car. If you are going to use it as a daily commuter with lots of time in traffic jam, an auto tranny would be handy, but then you shold consider another car anyways. Besides, the japaneese built auto tranny doesen't seem to be very successful, just read RC:s previus posts. I don't have a personal experience because I wasn't interested in test driving an auto. (still waiting for my '05 S). And I am sure RC would have an other tranny if the TT came with a sixspeed.

Interested tread I've tread upon for my first report from the frontlines of my Euro Delivery trip to pick up my new toy...

The Cayenne Turbo... Is more than most sports cars wish they could be... if you don't believe this... you haven't truly seen what she can do...

I (un)fortunately have been awakened to the TRUE capabilities of this amazing beast, on the test track at Porsche Leipzig... first in their cars doing hot laps on the crazy track (the last set of laps we did the Laguna Seca Corkscrew at about 130km/hr ... thats about 75miles/hour) most sports cars can handle that... then we thought that was fast... after lunch we got to get biblical with our lunch when the driver pushed the needle on its way to 160km/hour to show us "what he can do"... The GT2 experience was even more obscene... but I wish I was back there now holding back my lunch again.

The CayTT is a very different animal... it is a true cross in my eyes, of the incredible off-roader with the track work horse... truly a vehicle in its OWN class...

Please don't think I missed the point of the Auto tranny/Manual argument.. cuz I haven't... I think the choice for Europeans is more difficult than for Americans... we are used to Auto's or Tips... especially on our Trucks... on sports cars, manual is the way to go... but for a truck... especially in city traffic... or offroading(which is TOOOOOO damn fun in the Cayenne)... a stick is a pain in the ass... period...

Oh, and lest I forget(yeah that will ever happen)... Its one thing to see the assembly line of the GTs... that was cool... but seeing them run on the track just no words in the lexicon that begin to describe that level of cool.

Currently in Prague into the 2nd week of a wirlwind tour of Europe... my Cayenne Turbo has 600km on its Odometer now... and about 2400+ left to go before I drop her off in Stuttgart... what a wonderful car.

Larry Rev: you have GOT to see this picture I took of her in Meissen in front of the DOM... show you a shitterload of photos when I get back to Florida buddy.
