    Paddles shift steering wheel rush

Just called my dealer to order the new paddle shift steering wheel, he checked the system and told me one week ago there was more than 300 available, today there are only 5 in the system world wide Smiley

Assume you mean the PDK buttons are kaput?  Or do you mean that with paddles now available, more 6-speed manual buyers will be tempted by PDK?   Either is a possibility...

Will be interesting to see how many new PDK systems are ordered with the paddles.  A recent trip to a dealer was interesting as the dealer did not even mention the paddle option; our dealers seem to still order all cars (except turbo) with the original buttons.  I was told that most PDK buyers  use only the Drive setting so they don't car how the manual shift function is actuated, and he implied that most PDK buyers will not want to pay $600 for  a different way to shift manually that they will not use. Smiley

Re: Paddles shift steering wheel rush

If I were ever to order PDK, it would always have flappy paddles - never buttons - so it really surprises me that people can still pick buttons  I can only attribute this to the fact that the average Porsche buyer doesn't think through the options list as obsessively as Porsche nuts like us on RT

I think the typical Porsche customer has still to become familiar with the new paddle option.

After indoctrinating him that puddles are so much better for so many years...

Some PDK buyers are old Tiptronic customers. Most of those don't care about the type of interface and might lean towards buttons due to their similarity with Tiptronic.

I expect the PDK buyers who are coming from Manual (and most probably value driving experience more) to demand to try both types of interface at the Dealer prior to final order.

My dealer ordered all their 997.2 Turbos w/ the paddle wheel.  Our parts manager had the paddle wheel to me in February.  Different dealers w/ different customers.

Fot tip custommers, the buttons are the best setting as it is similar to before + nothing is in the way.

For manual drivers , the paddles are a MUST !!  One does not use the buttons, but with the paddles it is a different story. There ia a joy in changing gear with the paddles, not with the puddles.

At my dealer all TT are with paddles.

I was indicating that manual shifting is on its way out. Once you get accustomed to paddle shifting you wonder how you ever put up with stick shift. Smiley

The puddles will never go away... Porsche wants to sell the paddle option. Pretty soon they will only offer bicycle wheels as standard; everything else will be an option. I am thinking about having a garage sale for everything Porsche; enough is enough!

This is not exactly correct. I agree that a Porsche should include as standard things like Sport Chrono, LSD, Paddles (if PDK car)  and some more things perhaps. In that case starting  price would have been 2-3k euro higher or perhaps 5k if leather was standard too. I don't think anyone would complain or pass the a Carrera S by if it started from 101.000 or 103.000 with the richer equipment instead of 98.000 Euro without it. So it's all in the mind and IMO Porsche are stupid for doing this pricing/option strategy for no practical reason at all.

The last thing I want is a 'loaded' car but they install backward buttons and then want $500 to make it right. Just make it right without poking us in the eye!

With the Panamera and new Cayenne, in order to have a decent equiped car you have to spend +25.000 eur in top of basic price, it´s ridiculous.

Re: Paddles shift steering wheel rush

does anyone know if the the steering wheel with paddles can be ordered with the "heated steering wheel" option?  I have that option on my current buttons steering wheel and do not want to loose it when I upgrade.

No heating and no multifunction with paddles. It's obvious that the paddles are an afterthought after the knocking Porsche received for the original steering wheel.
