    Known problems with PDK?

    Dear Rennteamers,

    first, I never had any problems with the PDK in the Turbo S so far. Tranny works flawlessly. Smiley

    But...

    A close friend of mine has problems with PDK in his Panamera Turbo, he describes it as follows: while driving in auto-mode (gear lever position D), the PDK suddenly seems to be disconnected to the engine, resulting in higher revs when he pushes the accelerator, but without any more speed of the car. Just after some time (I guess a second or so), the car reacts normal and gathers speed. A software update already has been done, but no change of the problem, which occurs only sporadically.

    So my question: did anybody here happen to have a similar problem with PDK? If so, what has been done to solve such problem and has it been successful? Is it a typical PDK problem or related to the car where PDK is installed?

     I did now 42'000 km with my PDK.

    I did not have such a problem, except, sometimes when the car is cold in the morning and I go from P into D, it has happen a few times that the revs go up, the gear box does not engage properly, and it takes a second or two until all goes back to normal. 

    So , it sounds a bit similar to what happens to your friend, but mine has never done that while the box is engaged.

    Yes when I had the Panamera for a whole day I experienced the same problem.I would engage the throttle see the rev counter increase WITHOUT an increase in speed. I noticed it at around 2000 rpm's and it would go up to 4000 before any increase in speed. Very irritating.

    I reported it to the dealership.FWIW as I was doing so a service rep overheard my conversation and stated he had a similar experience with another Panamera.

    I've not had that issue on our Boxster S but when you come to a stop then press the accelerator to pull away again there can be a hesitation before the box thumps into first gear on it. This isn't very clever when you are trying to exit onto a roundabout for instance. I've already had the software upgraded once which seemed to cure the fault but strangely the problem appears to have come back.

    That's most probably the issue but it's odd that the it does it after the car has been stationary. The DCT box in both the California and 458 is far superior to PDK IMHO. I'd have expected it to be the other way round.

    No problems with the PDK here. The issues described by ISUK are not present in my case and not typical of the system. When I stop Gear 1 appears on the display and the car is already in 1st gear and ready to go. I've also driven several PDK cars of all models and this peculiarity was absent.

    I would have the specific car checked at a good workshop, if I had this complaint because it indicates unusual behaviour. There is a procedure called PDK calibration which you could ask the workshop to carry out.

    Is this behavior still present if you keep the PDK in sport+ and select 1st gear manually?

    If yes, than such hesitation it's not coming from not knowing which gear to select next...

    This happens on my DKG, too. I guess, when you put the gear in, you have to wait for it to engage. Otherwise, you just rev the car as it is in neutral. This is more obvious in the morning when the transimission oil is at its coldest.

    Once 1st gear is engaged automatically, for example when you stop at a junction, there should not be any hesitation.

    If you go from from Neutral to D (which doesn't happen every time you stop at lights or other junctions) there might be some hesitation depending on temperature but only for the first short distance from cold.

    The electronics trigger celluloids and through them gears are engaged hydraulically. So other things need to be checked by the workshop besides software.

    Nick, I think what you describe comes close to the problems of my friend's Panamera. I guess you dind't report the dealer about that incidence by any chance?

    Let me put the question this way: after you reported to your dealer and after he told you that it seemed to be a Panamera-related problem, do you know if they found a solution?

    Boxster s, 12500km, 6month old. A few times (3) I can't change frome reverse to first gear. I had to turn off the engine, then everything work es usual (reboot is good ...). Now I received a software update at my dealer, don't know if this is solution of my rare problems.

    I just emailed my dealer to find out what if anything they did to correct the problem. I will let you know as soon as they reply.

    It hapend to MY10 exactly  the same thing, but only once in 12 months.
