Didn't you want a Cayenne first? Smiley Smiley

Just ignore that video, the author certainly picked a beef with Mercedes for a reason we may never find out. He made some valid points but the truth is also that many Mercedes owners think their car is so bullet proof, that they do not maintain it properly. Smiley Also, many buyers of low end Mercedes models (A/B class and lower end C/E class) seem to think they are driving a S class for 200k, so the expectations are huge and disappointments even bigger, when something bad happens.

    Re: Top 10 Mercedes Myths

well my low-end Mercedes run since years faultlessly indecision oil and breaks every 60k km - nothing else.

I had a broken roofmechanism in the new loaner Panamera (fabric that covers the glass) and a loose driver door-handle in the Cayenne GTS I am currently driving - so despite being a huge fan of the brand - Mercs are a million times better in my experience - and "one more thing" I am getting a new engine in the GT3.....not paying a cent but go figure...

I didn't say that low end Mercedes cars are bad...I said that many owners have wrong expectations and don't do maintenance properly because the prices at official dealerships seem to be too hight for them. Smiley

We are going to order two AMG Mercedes on Wednesday, a C63 S AMG Convertible and a GLC 63 S AMG Edition 1. I wouldn't go for these cars if I thought they aren't reliable. Smiley Smiley

Yes, I wanted the new Cayenne (standard version) but I couldn’t justify myself the 30k difference over the GLC AMG 43...

I am shocked how Porsche can still sell around 180.000 SUVs per year globally when we hear of these wonderful offers from competing brands

Well, my wife got her Cayenne S Diesel (worth 135k or so...) for 1300 EUR a month, no down payment and a short 18 months lease period only, so she can upgrade to the new Cayenne if she wants to (it isn't mandatory though). When Porsche wants to move a car, they can make amazing offers as well...

The Cayenne Diesel was the "bestseller" in Germany, not sure what will happen now with that toxic Diesel discussion in Germany. There will be probably a Diesel but only the entry level model, not a V8 Diesel anymore (which is a pity because the powerful V8 Diesel would have made the hell of an engine for the new Cayenne).

My problem with the Cayenne is: It would be my family car, so basically the "third" car in our stable. For a "third" car, it just became too expensive. For many customers, the Cayenne is the only car (family car, business car) and many actually have it registered on their business, at least over here in Germany.

RC, isn't the M-B GLC in the Q5/X3/Macan category? If yes, then it is not a Cayenne substitute?

Yes and no. The GLC 63 S AMG I ordered is actually in it's own category since Porsche doesn't offer this kind of engine (V8 Biturbo) or performance in the Macan. Actually, no manufacturer offers a mid-sized SUV with a V8. The only reason I would get the Cayenne over the Macan is the V8 engine and the new interior of the Cayenne (which looks superb). I do not necessarily need the extra space of the Cayenne. Surprisingly, the GLC is pretty comfortable in the rear for my kids (and anyone below 1,80 m).

Also interesting: The GLC (SUV) luggage room is quite big, I was very surprised. Definitely bigger/better usable than the Macan trunk. Compared to the Cayenne? Well, by the looks of it, not much difference. Honestly.

    Re: Top 10 Mercedes Myths

Same happened to me. I found the GLC AMG 43 offer a better compromise to my needs than the Cayenne. For 15k more I would get the Cayenne. Maybe for 20k more too. But 30k more?! Sorry, I don’t see it happen...

And keep in mind that I was comparing the standard Cayenne with the AMG. If you compare the AMG with a GTS I estimate it is at least 70% more (like 70k vs 120k). Nuts if you ask me.

Enjoy the new car in good health Smiley

    Thank you. Smiley Smiley

Just signed the lease contracts yesterday, dealer actually threw us another "goodie" by raising the kilometers from 45000 to 55000 for the C63 Convertible and from 30000 to 35000 km for the GLC63. No extra cost. We also have another 2500 km "free" on each car, so pretty good.

Can't wait for the cars to arrive, especially that GLC 63 S AMG Edition 1. Smiley

That video is absolutely hilarious. He has some valid points. And with cars like Genesis coming on the market, I think it’s fair to say that Mercedes will start looking more and more expensive.

Absolutely hysterical as are his other ones. Side note...look at the new Cayenne grill shape and a Kia grill, separated at birth? indecision

Yes. Cayenne S Diesel and 991.1 C4 GTS Cab have to go...

For the first time, no Porsche in my garage, which makes me sad.

Didn't have a choice though: Wife needs a convertible with four full seats but Porsche doesn't offer one. Smiley SUV will be the family car but the Cayenne Turbo is too expensive (for us) for a family SUV. I also have the R8 V10 Plus, so I don't need another sportscar. No Porsche for me anymore, really sad.

Maybe with the 960 again...who knows.

Aside from his beating to death his favorite catch phrases, he alludes to a fundamental issue; in a future of autonomous pods incapable of breaking traffic laws, Mercedes is dead.  So are BMW, Audi, Jaguar and most other higher end auto brands.  There won't be any meaningful differentiation when handling, acceleration and driver aids are moot.  Nobody brags about their washing machine--it's simply a tool to get a job done.  When a car is summoned by phone and effortlessly delivers you to your destination, it too is a generic tool.  I think we all unconsciously see this coming and it's why there's so much Tesla bashing here.

I'm don't really see this coming, believe it or not. At least I hope it isn't coming, not in my lifetime.

Interesting stuff: Club of Rome co-president Weizsäcker warned that people shouldn't really ask for the end of the petrol engine right now because electric cars are actually, considering that they are using the current electricity "mix", worse for the environment than petrol cars. Instead, he asks for the development of cars run on hydrogen and methane.  In the long run, electric cars are the future but only if the electricity used is from a sustained source.

The Club of Rome is a think tank that deals with a variety of international issues, including the world economic system, climate change and environmental degradation.

Oh it is coming. The key element will be insurance. It will be so expensive to drive yourself that very few will. And if you do there might be so many nannies type of thechs that it won’t be fun anyway.
