    90k € for a Cayman

If i'd like to spend that amount of money ... i'd buy a used 997 GT3.

    Cheers

    Re: 987 Boxster/Boxster S and Cayman Facelift 2009

A good facelift, both the boxster and cayman look better, have better engines and now pdk too.

    Re: 987 Boxster/Boxster S and Cayman Facelift 2009

The way Porsche residuals are right now (dire) I wonder hat the price difference would be between a new Cayman S or a year old 997S with PDK, as I can''t run to a new 997 S PDK. . PDK appeals to me because at the moment I'm running three cars as SWMBO is vertically challenged Smiley and struggles to get a good seat position for the clutch pedal, which puts her too close to the steering wheel and too far forward for the handbrake. With PDK I could come down to two cars which is a lot more sensible! I've always found the tiptronic Porsches (987 or 997) horrible, but loved the 997 S PDK when I tried it....

    Re: 987 Boxster/Boxster S and Cayman Facelift 2009

Alright Dreamcar, I am awaiting your post to tell us you have one on order.   I on the other hand am at the point where I have my '08 987 S, just the way I want it, and while PDK is a tremendous transmission, I would miss manual shifting too much.   Yes, it is 2/10ths of a second to 60 mph quicker with PDK, but I am still "old school" in that I like the involvement that shifting manually provides.   Perhaps in 5 years I will be ready for PDK.   What would be appealing to me is a 2010 987.2S with a manual 6-speed factory short shifter, LSD, new style 19" wheels, PASM, Sport Chrono, PSE, and ipod integration.    My dilemma is waiting to see if the new engine has no bugs in it, as I feel more confident with the 3rd generation RMS & IMS fix, than version 1.0 of the new engine.    Of course, buying an extended warranty helps alleviate that concern with the new engine.   Lastly, it kills me to spend almost $30,000 to trade up and buy virtually the same car.   The bright side is I can come home in the new 2010 987.2S and my wife will not notice that I purchased a new car, but isn't that saying something?

Nope, not this time.Smiley Like you I've got my Boxster just right for me, and the short shift I've recently had retrofitted is spot on, on top of which just had the car serviced and purchased the two year and very expensive extended warranty. When I drove the 997 PDK I just felt that little bit out of control, in as much as there was too much automation, not enough involvement. I did come away respecting PDK for a very clever piece of kit.

Also I'm of an age where I have to increasingly think about amassing funds for retirement, Smileynot throwing shed loads of money at a marginally better car than what I've already got.

Being driven around the Nurburgring recently by Porsche-jeck in his 3.2 Boxster S highlighted to me just what an incredible car it is.

    Re: 987 Boxster/Boxster S and Cayman Facelift 2009

I feel the same way you.   An extended warranty may be costly, but it certainly would be cheaper than trading up, and even then I would still want to buy an extended warranty on the 987.2.   Also, if a 3.2 on the Nurbering is impressive, the 3.4 must be a screamer.   I recall a recent post regarding a 3.2 987 S that trounced an Elise SC on the Nurbering.   Imagine what the 3.4 or newly designed 3.4 would do on the track?   Great fun.

    Re: 987 Boxster/Boxster S and Cayman Facelift 2009

Any information on the exhaust note and cabin sound of the DFI 3.4L?  I drove a 3.6 DFI PDK 997 and the cabin was silent, no mechanical/exhaust "music" to speak of below 4-5K rpm.  Of course no PSE either.  I would not give up the voice of the current 3.4L in my CS or the wife's Boxster S, PDK or LSD nothwithstanding.

    Re: 987 Boxster/Boxster S and Cayman Facelift 2009

I have no idea how the exhaust note is in the new DFI 3.4L, but apparently Motor Trend was impressed.   I have PSE on my '08 3.4L, and the sound is incredible, and would hope to have PSE on any subsequent Porsche.    PSE should soon be available on the 997.2 and hopefully upon the introduction or only slightly delayed introduction of the 987.2.   To equip a 987.2 S similar to what I have now, will cost over $70,000 and close to $75,000 with PDK and LSD...   $25,000 to upgrade is a bit steep.

I'm in the same boat with dreamcar and vincesf. There's too much to like about the 987 the way it is.

Nice pic of your car, vincesf!

My wife recently made the same observation about the potential advantage of a two pedal system and seating position.  But... based on a test drive in a Merc. 350SLK with paddles, she concluded that she was not willing to give up the shifting control and fun of a manual for that small seating advantage.  So... assuming we do order a new Cayman to replace her M Coupe, it will be 6 speed.

No LSD unless you order PDK

    Re: 987 Boxster/Boxster S and Cayman Facelift 2009

In the MY09 order guide, to have LSD (Option 220) requires PDK (Option 250).

    Re: 987 Boxster/Boxster S and Cayman Facelift 2009

copy and paste from Kreso on cayman board

I got email with some good info for manual fans of FL Cayman...

"Concerning your questions I would like to answer as follows:

    1. At present it is only possible to order 220 in conjunction with PDK.
Later (approximately may/june) it will probably be possible to combine 220
as well with manual cars as well."

So, manual fans-just little bit more wait!

    Nick:

If you could tell me where I may be able to access an order guide, as the Porsche site still has the '08 model in the "build your porsche" section of the site.

    Thanks,

That's great information, thank you for sharing.

If you ever receive the 2009 Boxster/Boxster S option list, I would be much obliged.

    Re: 987 Boxster/Boxster S and Cayman Facelift 2009

Not sure you can download it yet but I am working on it.

    Re: 987 Boxster/Boxster S and Cayman Facelift 2009

    Nick:

I was able to download it, and sure enough my spec'd out Boxster S would cost approximately $75,000 + tax and lic., and I would have to wait until they changed the order guide to allow LSD with a 6-speed manual.    If I did PDK, I could order it with LSD tomorrow, and that would cost approximately $78,000 + tax and lic.   If only the stock market didn't tank!

    Thanks,

    Vince

    Re: 987 Boxster/Boxster S and Cayman Facelift 2009

I've seen some of the new cars on the street now.

Still have to say that I dont like that rear lights at all. They look so girlish.

Further on, the new dailight driving LEDs are ugly, too. They look so cheap. Had a Cayman yesterday in my rear window for over an hour and had to say they look like aftermarket.

    Re: 987 Boxster/Boxster S and Cayman Facelift 2009

I must agree.  I am still not liking the new rear lights and some of the front-end styling changes.    It's really not a "facelift", more of a "distortion" of the purer 987 styling.   Seems that they were going for the Ferrari 360 or 430 up front, but  it's not working for me.  Some who saw the facelift in L.A. said that it looked better in person.  I must disagree, seeing it in person for the first time yesterday, I thought the 987.2 looked better in the pictures.  I am hoping Porsche cleans up some of the gimmicky styling cues of the 987.2 on the new 988/981.   Fortunately, Porsche did more than "facelift" the 987.2 and am hoping that the new engines and PDK transmission turn out to be winners.   Paddles please, in the meantime I will manually row.

    Re: 987 Boxster/Boxster S and Cayman Facelift 2009

I've not known anyone here have one go on a 987,  2,7, 3.2 or 3.4.

Saw my first 987.2 (as I wasn't invited to the dealer launch) Smiley on Saturday in Chichester,  a 2.9 in that metallic green colour, but in spite of that it looked good, the LED lights at the front and the new shape rear lights looked very good. It looked very Carrera GT with the twin Bi-xenon dynamic lights.
