    maintenance question...

when are the regular maintenance intervals for the 997?

also, how often do most of you guys change the tires on your daily driver?
any tire recommendations? i currently have the pirellis that came w/ my '06 997.

    Re: maintenance question...

    20K for Oil & filter.
I changed mine at 7K & will do so every 7K(+-)
Sorry I can't answer tire Question, I to have pirellis on my '06 S.

    Re: maintenance question...

I replaced the Pirelli's at 20k with Bridgestones. Now I don't have to shout to converse with the person next to me.

    Re: maintenance question...

20k or two years, whichever comes first.

I changed oil after 3k of break-in (to remove any metal particles).

I also plan to stick to Porsche's recommended service intervals.

    20k miles?

I guess the car would get pretty loud when it starts running on the wheel rims.

    Re: maintenance question...

I soppose it doesnt harm to change before 20,000 miles..

oil every 10,000 i reccon, theses 20,000 mile oil change intervals require the new extended oil.

all the new cars have theses longer service intervals which i think is a bad think because because dont check there oil, never mind use the proper extended oil..

this just invites neglect.. not really on porsches because people look after them but on that audi or new golf gti people just neglect them...

i dont see anyone in my street check there oil?

some weird reason i'm the only one probibly in my area who looks after there car...

yet i seem to have all the car problems, but i never see anyother car in the street with problems?

although a car did go down the street with bad tappet rattle so maybe that car will be the first to go bang?!

when your running on rims get on the tram lines or the railways!

do you need road tax to run your car on the railways?

what about speed limits? porsche train perhaps?

    Re: maintenance question...

    99% highway miles. Had Pirelli's on an '01 M3. 22.5k before replacement.

Why not change your tires when they wear out? If it comes at 15K, 20K, or whatever.

Depends on driving style, I changed all 4 after about 9k. The rear ones were pretty much gone. That includes trackdays.

    Re: maintenance question...

Never heard of 6k. Are you driving on broken stone? I have clients who have averaged 10k-12k, but that includes track days, which I don't do. Mine is my daily commuter. About 12 miles each way, all highway. Weekends are winding mountain roads(weather permitting), but again, paved, no stone or broken concrete. Tire pressure is check every weekend.
I know of Ferrari's and Acura NSX's to get 7k to 9k, but of the dozen or so Porsche owners I know personally, who use their cars as I do, 15k to 18k or so is not out of the ordinary.

6k on normal paved roads plus about 4 full track days.
The only ' problem' was that the inner part of the tyre wore off much faster then the 90% rest of the tyre.
I guess I could of done 2 or 3 K more if the allignment would of been perfect. This happened a day where I drove about 600 miles in one day, most on German higways at high speed.
Otherwise I admitt pulling hard most of the time on my first 2 gear..a lot and often...not good for tyre wear

    Re: maintenance question...

We do have an expensive habit, but it's worth every penny and cheaper than alimony.I've had Corvettes, a Lexus SC 300 and 400 and an M3. This is definately it for me. As long as I can afford a new Porsche, I see no reason to get something else. If I can no longer buy new, then used it will have to be.

Hehe, sounds familiar - on my 987 S (of course less power, but also less traction compared to the big brother) the rear tires have been finished after 9,000 miles - and that's without a single trackday, but with wifey driving the toy for appr. 30% of total mileage in smooth city mode
I saw a tyre wear related poll in another P-forum and if I recall correctly most users reported something like 9,000-10,000 miles (no Boxsters, but all kind of Carreras from old to new).
And I also bet there is a correlation between tyre wear and fuel hunger as well
Of course if you use the car primarily for commuting on highways at moderate speed tyre wear should be way better compared to an "Alpine Carver" like Gnil.
For me the car is more like a fun toy, so my equation is: one set of tyres for each summer season and one set of winter tyres for (probably) two winter seasons.
For me the rubber costs are the only ones exceeding the maintenance costs (in general) compared to other premium car brands.
