    The Zonda R is not road legal either. It basically is an Enzo FXX competitior, so it's only natural that it is quicker than the tamer 599XX (not FXX, FXX is the Enzo bazed monster).

     Did the FXX ever get around the ring? anybody know the time? that must be an excellent comparison for the R. I'd take a Pagani over anything else anytime.

    No the FXX hasn't been officially timed over there. The Ring doesn't really suit cars that low and stiff. A Monza or Spa comparisson would be much more interesting.

    IMO, The Zonda R is the ultimate b!tch slap to its Italian rivals, ESPECIALLY Lamborghini. it was merely 2 decades ago when Horachio Pagani was still working for Lamborghini.

    Horachio only had one desire and he always reminded his boss,  Alfieri " but remember that I came here to make the most beautiful cars in the world," and despite all the work he had done on the Countach, Lamborghini told him that no Argentinian would ever design a Lamborghini.

    Had someone come to me 10 years ago and told me that a small little company called Pagani would be outclassing the big guns such as Ferrari and Lamborghini  in a few years I would never have believed it.

    Bare in mind that:

    Pagani dont have a F1 subsidiary team like Scuderia Ferrari, from which they can gain progressive engineering resources.
    Pagani dont have a multi billion dollar research and development scheme like Ferrari.
    Pagani dont have a Schummacher to aid them in the development of a supercar.
    Pagani dont make 10s of differnet models like Ferrari, they only make the Zonda so their marketshare and income is a like a grain of rice compared to Ferrari's full blown curry pot.
    Pagani dont have a Fiorano test track in their back yard to continuoulsy test and tweak their cars like Ferrari do.
    Pagani is a far younger company with the smallest workforce amongst its rivals.

    Despite all these shortcomings, Pagani has managed to break records, outclass their rivals,  not just in terms of speed but design and emotion.

    Horachio Pagani is a living testament - If you have the passion, NOTHING can stop you.

    this is precisely why they have to make a race care to beat a lab car such as 599xx.

    Pagani dont have a multi billion dollar research and development scheme like Ferrari.

    not clear how effective is schumacher in developing road cars. most likely his role is bounded to the commercial department.

    Pagani has access to plenty of other tracks, certainly this is not a shortcoming.

    Pagani have not outclassed Ferrari by any means. the records they broke (this is the only one) follow simply by the extremness of the zonda r and the zonda program altogether which makes these car not much practical in real world (there is a nice vid by top gear on read using of a zonda, ford gt and ferrari f430...). on the other hand, zonda r has sacrificed roadability as much as a 911gt2rs, except that doesn't have a driving plate, hence hats off to pagani which is nicely implementing what he has learned in his past job experiences in italy.

    it is interesting to notice how nurburgring used to be a porsche-germany pride to slam on everybody's face, with the help of puppets magazines like sportauto. but as it nearly always happens (e.g. soccer...) once italians bother to care about such formalities, things start to appear with the right proportions. now nurburgring looks like an italian internal affair, with italian brands displaying what their cars could do only if only they would use the same sterioids as porsche have been repeatedly put in their road cars...

    Top gear tests are not at all unbiased: british cars lap times (e.g. small makers as ascari) are always given more attempts and pushed harder than foreign counterparts. although i don't see any obvious reason to favor pagani over ferrari. I expect mason would have not liked to see his wrecked car towed out of the grass as result of a serious time attempt...

    Basseng nring test is the one to look at: essentialy the only fair test done at nring. saying that zonda has been faster than enzo is quite a statement: 0.6 secs in 7.30 min...even more eloquently, enzo was running on re050 and had active suspensions stalled for most of the lap... still zonda clubsport is an hell of a car...

    He is not tied to me... we are just both tied to commmon sense. The Zonda F managed after 7 years of development to surpass the legendary Enzo. When the Enzo came out, it annihilated the competition of that time. Tyre advancements alone would easily make up for the difference.

    It basically is an Enzo FXX competitior.

    fxx is the same as 599xx except it is based on enzo, i.e. a lab car meant to test road components for future road cars implementations. Zonda r modifications over a zonda clubsport have just the purpose of making it go faster on tracks, not to test any road component. therefore it is a race car, although it doesn't follow any fia rules scheme, as far as i know. zonda r can be adjusted to go even faster at nring. having said this, i believe fxx evoluzione, as is, pilot and tyres being the same could be as  quick as a zonda r.

    recent ferrari's competitor of zonda r could be the maserati mc12 corse (which complies with fia gt1 except for the lack of ballast Smiley and air restrictors). among older models: f50gt1.

    Oh, so British magazines are biased as well? I though that´s only the case with SportAuto... Other than that, what are you trying to tell us? Smiley

    Smiley a GT3 R can do the same laptime with much less horses....(yesterday 8:07 pole time for the VLN race - NoS plus GP short circuit).

    Ferrari lost the Supercar crown to Pagani some years ago until today and maybe it will not get it back soon with C9 launch.

    F60 would blow that lap time by at least a minut, and its comparable since they are both race cars, and would probably last the same,, about  6-8h! :)

    Pagani zonda R is a race car that never won a race:)

    for the less informed F60 is this years f1 chalinger, not the replacement for the nzo
