What Nick says confirms my feelings: you want old style feeling and MT, get an old car. It makes no sense to get a mordern car and limit it with old tech, and you can save a bundle by doing so. It's a win win. That's also why the Singer is just a marvelous niche car, they don't try to be a modern car...

Nick, you have my dream 964  kiss But I would also be as happy with a 964 RS

I understand well you remarks concerning ergonomics . They make no sense . i had to draw a reminder map  for mine

As you say it pretty good, I also have been missing something driving modern sticks ( GT4 for instance ) There is something way too refined and the stick is so easy , specially with the '' blip '' function , that I lacked some rawness .

I like the stick in my 964 ,  the ' old feeling'  , but at the moment It lacks loads of other things . It is too tamed ( engine and drive trains ) probably due to the AWD .  I still am thinking about a serious reconversion , dropping the AWD , making the car as light as possible , change all suspensions, seats, and making that engine rew faster .  The car would loose all it s value and it would cost me a leg .... so I don't know what I will do .

A 964 Carrera will always be a slow car for modern standards. But if you upgrade the chasis (Bilstein B6 + H&R or similar), work on the exhaust (G-pipe and cat), the intake and air mass sensor, the car is transformed. I have setup mine with RS geometry and it drives so differently.

The 3.6 is simply the better car experience wise. it has to be man handled, but it will also bite, taming it gives great satisfactions.

You might want to try the 930 turbo (last production year, 1989, ideally) as well - this car has even more character than the 3.6 Smiley

I was planning to add a 930 Turbo, 1989, but now I think I am gonna go look for a Speedster instead.

Speedster is also great - but ideally with the narrow body Smiley

Re: 918 latest news Thread Closed

I suspected the R would be a miss. Even just the new GT3 engine ensures its failure.

Gnil, As you mentioned, I believe selling ur c4 and buying 964RS and start upgrading stuff would be cheaper, better result

I have looked quite often at the adds for a used 964 RS lately . Problem is , the prices are crazy . About 5x the price of my 964 , at par with the 964 Turbo 3.6  , and about 3x the value it was 6 years ago .

If I buy a 964 RS , it is to drive it, but with todays market , I would be scared to drive it more then 1000 km a year Smiley

    Yes, 964RS prices are crazy.

Is the RS America available in Europe? That would be like the close cousin to the 964RS.

If you haven't done first gas fill up, don't get mad if every sec you have to push the nuzzle , just turn it 180^ ( upside down), and it will pump till the end.

I did my first fill up already, pumps fine, but I actually cut myself closing the gas cap, that damn tab from the lock seems too close and caught my finger when turning the cap Smiley

    Whoopsy:

So here is a funny story.

I put on about 150km on the 3.6 today, while driving on the highway, I noticed one of the gauges seems dead, the one next to the fuel gauge. In the next circle, it's the oil temp and oil pressure, so I automatically assumed the dead one was the water temp gauge.

Called up my mechanic to be a smart ass and let him know he missed replacing a dead gauge.

He reminded me the car is air cooled, no radiators and hence no coolants, and no water temp gauge. That was the oil level gauge and while driving it should be hovering around the min level. angry Oops!

More stuff to learn driving old classics.

While the car is not consider very fast nowadays after 20+ years, it is still adequately fast! That boost and turbo lag, major kick when full boost come along, is addictive! The distinctive air cooled engine sound is very enjoyable too!

Wonder what took me so long to chase old Porsche Classics.

One major complaint, those headlights, man, my iPhone's LED shines brighter. How do people drive with those headlights back then?

I'm afraid you will loose interest fast... Smiley

I remember my 993 Targa...fun to drive but always felt like an "old" car.

It cannot hurt however to have a classic in a modern garage. Smiley

Whoopsy's next car? 1967 911S. Last of the (north american imported) short wheelbase S'es. Little screaming engine, Still feels more than fast enough for our roads, loads of fun to drive even slow, iconic, appreciating in value...

My first car ever was that signal orange 914. Just a 1.7 but at 15 I was in auto heaven. Of course the 914-6 was my dream car.  It may still be.

I once drove my patient's 914 and found the shifter to be too long, steering wheel too stiff, seat too uncomfy.

I definitely got spoiled by modern days 911s and cannot go back...

So my 911R finally shows up at my dealership after almost 2 months in 'transit'.

This is actually the first time I have seen it with the proper wheels on.

Since I took a pic of the gauges when i let the car in Germany, I know exactly how much mileage they put on the car. Between the Porsche people in Germany, Canadian Customs, transportation personal, they put on a total of 11km.indecision

I also left the car with a 1/4 tank of fuel without the fuel light coming on, but when it gets here the tank is basically bone dry, lights on and the needle barely above the stop.

Don't want to be an alarmist, but I'd be tempted to do an ECU read-out to be sure no over-revs...
