Re: Ferrari-fun drive or more fun to own??

I would hazard a guess and say that Ferrari's tend to break down regularly if and when used (varies) and due to immense depreciation, people tend to garage them mostly. Then there are those who have temporary car needs who want to buy biggest/best right now and when the kick finishes, sell them. (Why couldn't this work with women) And then there are those with money, who REALLy make the most of their cars. They;ve earned their money working hard, who cares about depreciation/reliability/ and all that nonsense, this life's for living, you should know, and have the best ownership experiences, regardless of costs, insurance fuel....

It makes you think, you pay out of your nose and can easily afford for such a car and then you don't use it because its "expensive" to maintain?

Now, I would love to be in a position to own expensive sports cars one day, but even then when I have them, I shall probably be the one who keeps it as a garage queen, but I'd keep it for at least3/4 years....

On the other hand, if i could only buy secnd hand Ferrari/Porsche I would pray the previous owner didn't have Lon's track record....

    Wrong

    Wrong

Other than that, good post! Seriously, modern Ferraris are just as reliable (maybe better) than Porsches. And they depreciate less.

Re: Ferrari-fun drive or more fun to own??

Sorry for the inaccuracies, but thats what I was told from this forum, or at least gathered the impression so. The owners drive less because a high mileage Ferrari depreciates more. When you do drive it more, the more likely (apparently) its likely to break down. Again, just the impression gathered from this forum after a thread entitled ferrari v porsche relability. It could be just be the Porsche owners opinions.

But, I hear about ferrari owners maintenance problems all the time and when you never see a high mileage ferrari, you just assume what said...

Ferrari reliability issues have been overblown. If you want to talk reliability talk to me about my Cayenne.

Regarding the lack of miles on Ferrari's, more often than not the owner has several expensive cars in his garage to drive. They all end up with low mileage. Depreciation is not the concern.

Re: Ferrari-fun drive or more fun to own??

Don't be fooled even rich guys don't like the massive price tag that goes with the "major" service which is mileage related. That and the depreciation especially on the 12's really puts a damper on their use. Many ferrari owners have owned more than 1 f car and they know the market very well.

High miles are the herpes sore of ferrari ownership.

Reliability from what i understand is good but it is in the culture of f car ownership to keep the miles off. Period.

And sure the late 360's don't depreciate BUT if you want a future ferrari you will turn your current car into the dealer for a loss so that he can make his profit on the resale.

Re: Ferrari-fun drive or more fun to own??

Thats exactly the "perception" I had. I know the 12's really do go low, the V8's by comparison are the bread/butter cars and always in demand so you get good resale. But I'm more a fan of the 12's because I prefer comfort based cars, but buying second-hand would be much better.....with the ensuing costs to follow...
