    My ideal little collection, right now , would be :    964 RS  , 997 GT3 RS 4.0 , and my 991 GT3 RS

I looked at the curent prices of the two first ones ....... just way too much for me . And I bight my tongue as a few years back I looked seriously into both , but more specially into the 4.0 and could of bought both cars at 1/3 of the curent asking prices but decided against it at the time as I did not want to block that cash mail

Two days ago, I saw what I believe to be a 964 Turbo S in white parked in a grocery parking lot. I walked around the car several times and my reaction was meh. Clearly it was well maintained but it still looked like an old car that belonged in a museum. I just don't get the love of old and by now smelly cars.yes

Re: 918 latest news Thread Closed

Well Nick, I don't really have the hots for old cars either.

But there are a few that left a lasting impression when I was young but did not have the means to acquire them until now.

For the few that deemed important to me, the smelly part can be fixed with a restoration. :)

Neither do I. I get collecting, but not for driving.

I also like modern safety features, to which I have become well accustomed.

The older I get, the less nostalgic I become.  In my amateur radio hobby, I am excited by modern equipment without the dangers of yesteryear.  50 volts D.C. for power supplies instead of many thousands of volts seems safer and less worrisome.

I really like modernity of equipment.

Re: 918 latest news Thread Closed

So it was all anticlimactic, the inspection is done and it failed. mail it looked so good on paper but if it's too good to be true, it is.

The car is question is a 968 Convertible. (Told you guys it will be an odd duck!) Porsche only sold 55 of them total in Canada during 1992-1995.

Mithras got it! (sort of, he probably thought it was gonna be a coupe)

Why is probably the next question.

It is the final evolution of the 924-944 line, basically with everything all sorted out. Also less complex than a 928 and thus less things to go wrong. When it first came out in 92, I thought it looked gorgeous, it still does 25 years later. Very modern looking too. I have had rear engine Porsches, mid engine too and is missing a front engine one. Plus, I really don't need another 911 when I know I have 2 coming.

I think the 968/944/924 is the under appreciated line of cars from Porsche. Hell no one here ever talked about them everlaugh

As for why not a 912. I think that thing is hideous, the worse ever styling job, a pile of crap shit by Dr Porsche would look better than a 912. Yup, that's how low I think a 912 is. Sorry guys who are fans of the 912, I am just shooting it straight.

That black 930 Turbo was nice, price is not bad too, but one of my friends already had a look at it before and he passed, (he is always on the look out for 930s, he has 2 already one since new, and always on the look out for nice ones). So if he passed on the car, there must be something wrong and I certainly isn't going buy it.

As for the unexpected surprise, that would be a 968 ClubSport. someone I know got a line to one, and I am just waiting for the details to come back to me. As in condition, location, price, etc.

    There, the mystery solved. haha

But then again I can't fly under the radar anymore cause everyone knows I am trying to locate a good 968 and might bid up the prices

Don't worry you won't have much competition for it Smiley .

Re: 918 latest news Thread Closed

Nick, a 968???? Have you lost your mind? Isn't that the model that almost bankrupted Porsche?

Hey I get nostalgia but given what's in your garage and to insert that pile of crap among those phenomenal cars would be blasphemy. It's one of the ugliest Porsche's around.Smiley

Now I want you to count to ten and repeat "I know black is my weakness (except for ObamaSmiley) but I will not buy a car because it is black."Smiley

Re: 918 latest news Thread Closed

I had a 924 LeMans (2.5l) car. It was OK. Not fantastic (even at the time) but OK. I certainly wouldn't want another (I know many will say the 968 was the final evolution - but basically the same car to me) Each to their own but I can't help thinking you'd be disappointed.

I had a 968 Clubsport and it was boring, too slow. And emotionless. Like a Golf GTI that had plastic surgery. Sold it quickly.

Oh quick correction. I meant to say 914 not 912 as the crappiest car from Porsche ever.

The 912s, well, why not go for the real thing 911s?

Ok fine you guys hate the 968.

    968! Wow, never expected that!

A couple of years ago I looked at several 968s. Love the exterior, but it sure is a 30y/o car, and most of them show it. I never understood the convertibles though, with their weird mix of round front design and square rear design... Ah well, hope You'll find a nice one Nick!

Ouch. That hurt. Mine was orange. My first Porsche at 15. Totaled by a drink driver four months later. It was a fun go kart to drive. It beats many 930 in the autocross. If you had a 916 or 914-6 you would have quite the collectible. I would go for that over a 968 in a second.

Re: 918 latest news Thread Closed

The 968 is one of the most balanced cars ever made. Not hugely fast but a joy to drive at the car's (as opposed to your)  9/10th's.

The same goes for a 914, and anyone that builds a really good one and can drive half a lack will utterly humiliate most modern cars. Mine has 280ish hp, weighs about 1900lbs and is faster than a 996 cup car.

Should I step on it even more? Smiley

But you know what, being a mid engine car, it is amazing in handling, even when it is a VW.

It is a Piech project, that's why it works but looks like shit. sorry.

I seriously cannot believe Porsche actually put a Porsche badge on that thing.
