Re: Audi R8 V10 Plus (2017 model) - Short Review

    Lukas:

I test drove the R8 V10 plus today. Fantastic machine and that engine is epic! Agree with what already has been said by RC regarding the drivetrain and other bits. The R8 however felt too much supercar for my taste and you don't go grocery shopping with it, drive to work or drive to the golf club in the same understated manner that you can do in a 911 Turbo. The R8 also got way more attention than the 911 Turbo. Most likely due to the soundtrack from the exhaust and somehow it also looks more exotic. From an image perspective I actually came to the conclusion that I much prefer the 911. Also seem to "fit" better in the 911 cabin and the Adaptive sport seats feels nicer than the sport seats in the R8. This is of course a very individual thing. I felt like "i'm trying too hard" in the R8 and feel more relaxed in the 911 Turbo if that makes sense?!

Very good analysis, I can confirm it. It feels like a super sports car and due to the very sporty interior, the virtual cockpit, the low seating position and that amazing sound, you are always kind of in "attack" mode, I get it. You get used to it though (well, I did because otherwise you risk losing your driver's license).

One other weird thing that I actually didn't like with the R8 is the front window and the front. It feels like you sit too far forward in the car and almost sit on the front wheels and the front is too short and too low?! This is probably something you get used to, but it felt weird on my test drive. Also visibility is kind of limited compared to the 911.

I am not that tall, so I do not have these issues. I guess you are taller than 1.80m or so? The steering wheel can be adjusted a long way (towards you and up and down), so this can be corrected pretty well.

In total an absolutely fantastic car and I understand completely that many fall in love with it and put it ahead of the Turbo S. But for me it is too much of a supercar/exotic and creates too much attention so I will pass.

At first, I was thinking the same but in Germany it is...an Audi. I saw the reaction of the neighbor who rented me his garage, so I think I'm good. Also, the car won't be parked in my house until next year, so people will have the chance to get used to it. It is an exotic though and attracts a lot of attention, this is true. However, in Germany, as long as it is a German car, I think you can get away with it. Only exception would be probably the 918. Smiley

The R8 has a very special and unique design compared with other supercars which is working like it is and without the irritating stripes. Take the stripes away. Trust me...Smiley

I was thinking the same... Smiley Also, it kind of looks a bit boyish and I'm not so sure I want that at my age (50). Smiley

Still haven't decided though. The problem is: If I let them remove them before I take final delivery of the car, it costs me nothing. If I remove them later on, it costs me (not much but...). Another problem is the clear bra which I would "lose" if the stripes get removed and while that clear bra doesn't cost a fortune to renew, it would be a pity.

Dealer says I should drive the car for a month with the stripes and then I can decide what I want. Car needs to go to dealership after a month anyway because I currently drive it with Munich license plates (and will when I take final delivery) but in August, I will get my own plates on it. The good news: I had a very short and unique license plate on my GT500 (because of the US license plate holder), a license plate you usually don't get in Germany for a R8 and I am able to take it over to the R8, which is great. Smiley

    Fwiw,,,

I would just leave it, Christian. Plus you loose the bra. Give it time , the boy racer look may grow on you.

Your the same age as me ( I'm 51 December 15th ) and it really wouldn't bother me. blush indecision.

I would take those stripes away . They don't make sense on that car . On a US muscle car, or a mini  , yes, but not on an R8 .

Plus, I would not want the extra attention they will bring. The car is enough by itself . And they don't look particularly good anyway .

Photo below shows horrible color combination, but you could put exact same stripes, but in light silver color. It would be very subtle, but still sporty kiss

My opinion as well. The car would look classier and more high end without them.

Unless its a car in which the stripes are iconic for ceratin reasons like on a GT40, or the lateral ones on a 2.7RS, or even some that come factory on some GT3/GT3RS of late generations, then its OK but otherwise its just added on  go-faster-stripes and a needy way to call atention IMO, and even though it may not be the case, thats the impression it gives off. Thats just my personal "taste" though Smiley

You're crazy if you put the stripes on. Really diminishes the car. I can't say much for the color. Not my cup of tea.

No stripes! Makes no sense on this (beautifull) car.

Re: Audi R8 V10 Plus (2017 model) - Short Review

All white without stripe would make for one boring car.

Re: Audi R8 V10 Plus (2017 model) - Short Review

If I recall correctly, the R8 is Suzuka Grey, not white.  That's a significant difference in colors when viewed next to each other.  As for the strips, its his car and his choice.

I am surprised RC didnt go after matte grey. It looks absolutely amazing on R8 + its best "under radar" color smiley

Actually, I agree. This color looks amazing in real life. Same goes to camouflage green (matte color). Unfortunately, I had no saying in this (dealer showcar, remember?) and the Suzuka Grey is definitely a less aggressive color, which is good for me. Smiley

I decided to have the stripes removed. They are kind of OK in the front (still a bit too much...) but in the rear? No way. Smiley The car looks best without stripes and like someone already said, there is no R8 "heritage" with stripes or whatever, so they just look weird and boyish racer-like.

The clear bra is not expensive if I want one again, so no problem here.

Btw: Suzuka Grey is not white. It may look in photos like white but in real life, it is somewhere between white and Nardo Grey if someone knows this color. It is actually a nice pale matte grey and the titanium colored rims fit the color perfectly. I wanted to go for black, so you can see the brake calipers much better but the dealer sent me a photo of a Suzuka Grey car with black rims and the contrast just doesn't look right because the black is shiny and the color isn't. They look good on a really white car but not on Suzuka Grey. Good for me, this saves me some additional money. Smiley

I would have had removed them too, however, other designs may look good with the car. The R8 is actually a nice subject for some stripes and wrapping, but you may not be old enough for this kind of outragous styling...Smiley Smiley

I guess you wanted to say..."You are too old for this kind of...". Smiley

I liked the thin stripes on that Huracan I drove a lot but I guess the Italian flag colors as a thin stripe for a R8 looks kind of stupid... Smiley Maybe in German flag colors? Nah. Even if I would probably earn myself a lot of respect now with the Euro 2016 and all. Smiley

How about a big circled 1 (number one)  on the front hood? Smiley Smiley (just kidding...saw this on a GT3 once)

My Audi dealer has a guy who does foil jobs on a highly professional basis, so if I really need something...

Maybe a small Rennteam.com on the sidelines? Smiley

Or I go for the full racing look? Smiley
