I just got my latest Consumer Reports, which is their annual auto issue. I was a bit concerned with the 5 year reliability rankings of Volkswagen. They were at the bottom of all manufacturers with 138 problems per 100 cars. I hope this is not bad news for future Cayenne reliability. The text of the article mentions that most of VW's problems stem from coils on the 1.8T motor which many models share. I hope that's all there is to it.

Most European models did poorly, especially the ones we like: Jaguar, Mercedes, Audi, Land Rover, etc. American cars actually had better overall reliability.

The Car Connection also has some coverage of this issue: web page
