    PDE- Porsche driving experience

Has anyone tried the PDE? I've done the BMW one (free with purchase of Z8) but now being the proud owner of an '05 C2S I'd like to try the driving school in Alabama. My only reservation is that on their website, they only have '03 996's. Don't get me wrong, I've owned 2 996's and loved them but the driving dynamics of the 997 S w/PASM is different enough to make me wish they had 997's. After all, I did go from a 996 turbo to the 997S (with no regrets). For our European colleagues, we don't have an autobhan, so these driving schools are as close as we get to the real potential of our preferred mode of transportation. Don't make me go back to the M school at BMW... surely someone has done the Porsche school and will give me a pep talk.

I checked their site too and they still advertise with 996 cars.
I have no doubt that they'll switch their cars to 997 and 997S but it'll take a few months.

I went to the one for the Cayenne and loved it. The Barber Motorsports track is wonderful. It is relatively short with lots of tight turns and a top speed on the straight of maybe 100-120 mph in a 911 (90-95 in a Cayenne). All the instructors are great and you really get first class treatment. If I buy a 911 in the future I will go again.

    Re: PDE- Porsche driving experience

i wonder when they will switch the 996s for 997s

    Re: PDE- Porsche driving experience

The PDE course is GREAT. The instructor base and track facility are second to none!!
When I was last there in Sept we spoke about the 997 implementation, and at that time the feeling was to use the 997 for the classes with a few 997S's available for tests.
My guess is that they should be up and running with them this month.
None the less I will be driving my new (Feb arrival) 'S" on it's maiden road trip from Los Angeles to Birmingham to attend the Masters Course in March.

Someone give them a call and let us know about the 997

I did it at Sebring a few years back. VERY COOL

I loved it. Hurly Haywood was one of our instructors. Lots of lead follow stuff and car dynamics. It was pretty basic stuff but also very fun. They sort of stepped it up depending on people's ability. The better you were the faster they would lead you. Some instructor ride alongs and cool hot laps at the end. I think for the money you might be better off taking your car to a high performance driving school. BUT not to say I didn't think it was worth it because you get to beat up THEIR car not your own...!! The instructors were nice for the most part, but I did get a LITTLE feeling they might have been tired of dealing with morons with $100k cars who have no idea how to drive. There were plenty of people there with just NO CLUE. But I guess you have to start somewhere....

    Re: PDE- Porsche driving experience

I've done the PDE, just this last year. It was a great experience. On the first day, when doing laps you feel like you're hanging from a thread, in the second day, everyone's confidence and comfort level had gone up substantially and it feels like you could be going 10 miles faster and still be completely safe.
I'd suggest giving them a call or sending them an e-mail to clarify when they will have the 997's in.
First class operation - would gladly do it again and have recommended it to a number of friends

    Re: PDE- Porsche driving experience

Is it just my imagination or is Porsche Sportfahrschule less expensive than PDE?

    Re: PDE- Porsche driving experience

I did it last April. It is awsome, great intructors. Highly rec buying the added insurance, one guy kissed a wall in a previous group. They are due to get 997's in Jan, now! They told me they would be regular 997's, nonS.
The German course is cheaper but you bring your own car.
All in all worth every cent! You will be hooked on tracking your car after this! There is a wide range of ability, but they only take 20 at a time and break you up nicely.
One funny thing was to see these race drivers attempting to give physics lectures try and answer pointed questions. They are god at what they do though!
If you're going, need to sign up well inadvance, fills fast.

    Re: PDE- Porsche driving experience

Any details on a UK PDE?
