A rumor? Not anymore. 997 is official now!

    You read it here first.

Just got this info from an official source today: the new 911 will be the 997 and first cars go to dealers this summer 2004!
There have been a lot of rumors in the past and a lot of people weren't really sure if the 996 -> 997 change will happen this year but I got it confirmed today.

Now let's not talk about rumors anymore but let's speculate about the power and looks of the 997.
And if you want to have a 997, you definetely should see your dealer now because I already saw the new 911 and it looks great. Some people might not see much difference to the current 996 but there are several differences and they're worth waiting for this car.
So if your dealer wants to sell you an "old" 996, you better wait.

Re: A rumor? Not anymore. 997 is official now!

Thank you Christian! You're the man!
    First deliveries this summer!
That means that it will be introduced in Geneva, ie in less than 20 days!
I presume that also means that 996 Turbocab, 4Scab, GT3, RC etc. will be produced alongside 997 for a while.
I know I've said it before, but it's often easy to predict Porsche, just look at its history! (993/ 996 had one year of common production).
Now the novelty would be an S version at the same time as the standard Carrera. I'm holding my breath.
My speculation, well, I won't take many risk and repeat your words, 340 and 370hp
RC, since I have a great 996, wouldn't you suggest for me to wait for a couple of model years for the 997 or the 997 is not "that" new enough to have the few glitches the 996 had.
I remember you've always tought me to wait for a new model to be a couple of years old, especially with Porsche, new things tend to appear (Powerkit, Better PCMs, Neater interiors, etc)?
    Thanks.
PS: BTW, when I spoke to my dealer yesterday, he did tell me they are currently taking "Pre" oders

Re: A rumor? Not anymore. 997 is official now!

    Great news Christian..

    Any news of upcoming models??

    Ciao

Re: A rumor? Not anymore. 997 is official now!

If the 997 was to be introduced at the Geneva Motor show, this would be very good news.... this would explain how they are planning of flat 911 sales for this fiscal year ..... so far sales are seriously down (-11% to customers and -26% to dealers).

I believed the 40th anniversary was sold out ..... and it appears it's not the case... some are still available and that sounds to me a bit worrying....

Re: A rumor? Not anymore. 997 is official now!

    Great News.

Rc, i've got a question for you.

When the boxster and the 911 debuted, did Porsche released oficial pics of the cars (Like Mercedes did with the 2004 SLK) or Porsche presented the cars to the public and press in a Auto Show (Like Bmw did with the 2004 645 Cabrio)???

    Best Regards.

Re: A rumor? Not anymore. 997 is official now!

    Chris,U 're the best!!!

I'll go in Geneve ,and i hope to see and photograph our new dream.

any official rumors about the "S" wide version?

    greattttt!!

    ciao!

Re: A rumor? Not anymore. 997 is official now!

    CHRIS!
you wrote that you have seen the new 911 yet .
    can u describe for us?
    lamps,INTERIOR,engine...etc?

    thanks you!!!!!!

Re: A rumor? Not anymore. 997 is official now!

From the pics the 997 looks much more like a new 993 than a substitute for the 996 if you know what I mean, so I really don't understand why do you say, that and I quote "Some people might not see much difference to the current 996 but there are several differences and they're worth waiting for this car."

Anyway, if you see the car and you say this I will believe you're right.

Re: A rumor? Not anymore. 997 is official now!

if the S version has 370 HP, I better did to cancel the order for the GT3!

So, let's expect to see the "Parisiens" with their new 997 this summer in the Cote D'Azur!

Re: A rumor? Not anymore. 997 is official now!

Come on, RC! You obviously know more than you're saying in this post... Now tell us little bit more about the technical specs... or are you wondering how curious you can get us here?

Re: A rumor? Not anymore. 997 is official now!

i've seen a slightly disguised 997 (front lights and rear lights taped) during a factory tour when i visited zuffenhausen in december last year. it drove by and entered a garage.

NO ONE (exept me and my brother) from the group noticed that this was a "special" car in any way. no one! no kidding! and the guys doing a factory visit should even have at least a minium interest in and knowledge about porsches... and RC was talking about the normal people on the street. maybe some of them will even think that the 996 is the newer car because of the more modern integrated front lights

but the 997 will definitely look better than the 996.the overall proportions are somehow more athletic. it's sure worth the wait* and shouldn't have too many technical problems like new cars in general bc it's basically a 996.5

Re: A rumor? Not anymore. 997 is official now!

Thank you so much. I was thinking about the 911-40 but now will wait. Wanted a GT3 but allocation kept being pushed back. That's why I love this board.

Re: A rumor? Not anymore. 997 is official now!

    Thanks RC you da man

    Geneva show March 4 thru 14 2004

The count down starts 20 days starting today

Re: A rumor? Not anymore. 997 is official now!

i doubt that we'll see the 997 in geneva. but it's just my personal guess.

Re: A rumor? Not anymore. 997 is official now!

Me too Zz I agree with you.
But if first deliveries are this summer, then it's not Paris, bc it's in September.
I can't think of a major car show between Geneva and Paris and RC seems to be pretty certain of his info.
Or maybe there's something like the Nigerian motor show or something like that in June

but you forgot the mother of all car shows: the AMI Leipzig starting april 17th

it's just an unimportant fair but leipzig and PAG are close -- it would be like a promotion for the AMI to a major car show if the 997 will see the light of day there.

and why present it on a car fair anyway? first pictures to the press around may/june -- and then the big live appearance in paris in september, just in sync with the mass production start.

but i'm not a car marketing guy

Re: A rumor? Not anymore. 997 is official now!

I heard something about a 320 and a 360 hp "S" version. It's said that Porsche not only returns to the 993 design outside, but that they will also change the dials inside, what means separate them again.

Re: A rumor? Not anymore. 997 is official now!

Somebody that I work with, is flying all the way to Switzerland
    to see the 997 in the flesh. He believes very strongly, that the car will be there. I tend to think that the Leipzig theory;
makes a lot of sense. Porsche is trying to help East Germany
regain prominence, in any way that they can. They invested largely in the city for their new facility; and are trying to put people back to work. I think to debut the new 997 there, in the very large and revovated Convention Center makes a whole lot of sense. We will find out, soon .......Revvv

Re: A rumor? Not anymore. 997 is official now!

The real question is what and when?

    Coupe first?
Cab and Coupe at same time?

I figure an "S" version will surely come later, if at all, not at the intro. My sources tell me the C4S Cab and TT Cab (and possibly the TT) will all maintain the 996 styling, while the new 997 is brought out.

Any further news on the above?

    Thanks!

I heard "standard" and "S" will be introduced together...

Re: A rumor? Not anymore. 997 is official now!

I think i heard that too Rossi, we will see what Porsche decides to do.

Im thinking offical pics in a couple of weeks? And the car will be at Geneva!???????????????????????

ANYWAY, Thank You for sharing the great news RC!!!! Really appreciate it, now I have something to really look forward to.

    Wow, that was TOTALLY unexpected

anyways, i'm all tingling with excitement

But i'm a bit sad, at the same time.. i won't be able to afford it..i'm excited about a fantasy..

Re: A rumor? Not anymore. 997 is official now!

    This is becoming very exciting....

If the 997 will be released in the summer, then that leaves me with plenty of options...997, 997S, 996C4S, or possibly a 996C4S Cab.

Hey RC, It's almost time to start the Porsche 997 Board forum

Re: A rumor? Not anymore. 997 is official now!

I still believe it will be pictures at Geneva and then official presentation and launch in September in Paris....

I was told they will start to produce the car in May with a 'decent' output level targetted for July...

But the Liepzig theory is attractive .... so we'll see.

Re: A rumor? Not anymore. 997 is official now!

    RC, You miserable worm
Now that you've driven us all crazy, could we have a bit more info please?
And don't tell me that's all you know.
Come on man! I'll be nice.

Re: A rumor? Not anymore. 997 is official now!

    fanch,
I guess you lost it before I did I was at the verge of begging too and now I'm officially pleading .

    RC,

Ok, seriously man, speak or Ron and myself will make you speak!!!
Ron, you take care of him, I'll just tell you what to do;)

Re: A rumor? Not anymore. 997 is official now!

I may be way off, but they could actually unveil it in june...there is this little race Porsche is sorta associated with...ever heard of Le Mans??

Re: A rumor? Not anymore. 997 is official now!

Like i said, i could be way off, but i think that Le Mans would be a fantastic place for Porsche to unveil this new car...and possibly a good place to announce a new dedication to motorsport?

i must be getting too wishful now...
