The road version should look very similar, and have the same engine.

Interesting - some seem convinced that a 4.0L version is coming (not GT3 motor) for the road version...

    It will be (4.0L)

Are you sure GT4 will be 4.0?  Because I am wondering if whether there is some confusion with a possible GT4 RS that would sit above GT4 and have the 4.0 (and 3.8 in non-RS GT4)??

    GT4 = 3.8L, both gearbox.

    Re: Cayman GT4

Yes, not logical. AP has always claimed on the 911 that the RS model is exclusively PDK since it is about lap times in the RS models.

Perhaps the engine displacement increase is intended to compensate for the loss of performance that goes with no PDK :)

"Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 Clubsport previews upcoming road car" (Autocar)

    Porsche’s motorsport-spec 718 Cayman retains 3.8-litre flat-six and provides a glimpse at road-going GT4 coming later this year...

    (3 January 2019)

Porsche has revealed the new 718 Cayman GT4 in race-ready Clubsport spec, giving the world a big hint at what we can expect from the next GT4 road car, due towards the end of this year.

The GT4 Clubsport, built to spec by Porsche Motorsport for race teams globally, it said to be the first production racing car to feature natural-fibre composite body parts.  The lightweight material, similar to carbon fibre, is used in the doors and in the car’s rear wing, means the car is 130kg lighter than a Cayman GTS.

The news that will delight purists most is that the GT4 Clubsport retains the old version’s 3.8-litre naturally-aspirated flat-six, rather than moving to the turbocharged four-cylinder unit found in all current 718 Caymans. Here it produces 425bhp, 40 more than before, and puts its power down through a six-speed dual-clutch gearbox and a mechanical rear axle differential lock.

It’s not clear yet whether the road-going GT4 will feature the same power output, or be offered, as before, with a manual gearbox option as well. But head of GT car development Andreas Preuninger confirmed to Autocar last year that the flat-six would be retained in this year’s GT4.

The GT4 Clubsport features front suspension taken from the 911 GT3 Cup car, alongside 380mm race-spec steel brakes all-round. The single-seat interior is stripped back to the bare minimum, with luxuries thrown out in favour of a welded-in roll cage, pared-back switchgear and a racing seat with a six point harness.

The only UK offering comes in Competition spec, priced from £130,000 plus VAT and not homologated for road use. It gets three-stage adjustable shock absorbers, a 115-litre endurance fuel tank, adjustable brake bias, an integrated air jack and a quick-release racing wheel.

Wrong commie car and country.   The hemp-fibre vehicle was the Trabant.

Spyder and GT4 will have 4.0L. It is not long time left to wait and see.

    - Porsche Official Press Release -

"Demo run for the Porsche Cayman GT4 Rallye on snow and ice"

Near-standard rally vehicle complying with R-GT regulations planned

    1548014086485image.jpeg

    (18 January 2019)

Stuttgart. The Zuffenhausen sports car manufacturer is planning a return to rallying. For this, the motorsport department in Weissach is developing the Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 Clubsport to comply with the FIA R-GT regulations. The vehicle should be ready to contest the 2020 season. A decisive factor in this decision was the positive response at the launch of the Cayman GT4 Rallye Concept Car on the occasion of the 2018 ADAC Rallye Deutschland. Romain Dumas (France) drove the spectacular concept study as the course car. The first demo run on snow and ice for the rally concept vehicle will be at the Porsche Winter Event held before the GP Ice Race in Zell am See (Austria, 19/20 January). Piloting the concept car is local hero Richard Lietz, who currently ranks third in the FIA World Endurance Championship (FIA WEC, GTE-Pro).

In contrast to the concept vehicle, the future rally car will not be based on the Cayman GT4 Clubsport built up to 2018, but on the new 718 Cayman GT4 Clubsport unveiled in early January. The new customer sport racer, designed for GT4 series as well as clubsport and track day events, is powered by a 3.8-litre flat-six engine producing 313 kW (425 hp). In developing the vehicle, the focus was put on performance, driveability and sustainability. In the construction of the Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 Clubsport, several body parts were made of natural-fibre composite material for the first time.

The appearance of the Porsche Cayman GT4 Rallye Concept Car at the 2018 Rallye Deutschland yielded positive feedback. The response from the rally fan camp, teams, drivers and series organisers was a decisive factor in going ahead with the new development programme. The comparatively low operating cost of the new R-GT-regulation vehicle is a major advantage, thanks to its close affinity to the production car.

Porsche in rallying: Triumphs and tradition
Porsche has a long history of successes in rallying. Claiming overall victory at the Dakar Rally in 1986 with the Porsche 959 is regarded as a milestone. The Porsche 953, based on a four-wheel-drive version of the 911, also won the Dakar Rally. In the late sixties and early seventies, Vic Elford and Björn Waldegard celebrated major triumphs with the Porsche 911 at the legendary Monte Carlo Rally. In the recent past, many privateers have put their trust in various models of the Porsche 911 in national and international competitions. Moreover, Porsche’s works drivers Timo Bernhard and Romain Dumas have taken on private projects in rallying.

This is the FIA R-GT class
The R-GT regulations were introduced by FIA, the world’s governing motorsport body, for the 2011 season. The aim of the concept is to give ambitious customer teams and private drivers a chance to take on the sporting challenge of rallies in a cost effective way. For the 2014 season, the regulations were again extensively revised. Customers can contest events around the world with R-GT-homologated vehicles. Highlights include the famous Monte Carlo Rally and the legendary tarmac stages of the WRC round run on the Mediterranean island of Corsica.

Surprising that with modern lighting technology, they still need this massive appendage on the hood. Retro styling perhaps?

Sure it qualifies, from a marketer's point of view : the control arm at the bottom of the strut is made up of two links (not counting the tie rod / toe link). It's not a single triangular control arm. They did not say "5-link" suspension. indecision
