What on earth was that last lap, the battle for P3? Did the Manthey-car fail? yes

    Re: ADAC 24h - Nurburgring

I was on the edge of my seat, but need to go for a bit of activity now...

    Very disappointed.

    Porker:

Seems that the car went out of gasoline, became very slow and the Roadrunner Clio didn't pay attention....maybe watching out for his team members at the pitlane ? Smiley

Pity for Porsche but at least my car will appreciate in value now as I can claim that it has been driven by a 24h winner on the 'Ring Smiley

    Re: ADAC 24h - Nurburgring

    Spyderidol:

Porsche report from the Nürburgring 24 Hour Race

"Romain Dumas fought off attacks from the trailing Mercedes. Just before the finish line he had to brake because he was several seconds off the 24 hours and he did not have enough fuel onboard to drive another fast race lap. After crossing the finish line, the engine died and could not be restarted immediately. Unfortunately, another driver did not see the 911 standing on the side of the track and hit the rear at high speed. This meant that the Wochenspiegel 911 could not complete the last lap and hence was not classified."

I do not understand why -if above stated was indeed the case- Dumas did not stop before the finish-line and thus wait for the leader before crossing, securing a 4th place? What good could possibly have come from stopping after the finish line? Smiley

I assume he knew what he was doing, but it remains a mistery to me.

    Re: ADAC 24h - Nurburgring

I think that there may be a mistake in the report. I think the engine must have died before crossing the line. Dumas must have kept the car going in order to actually get across the line, as if the car stopped before the line they would not have been able to push it across. (the rules state that the car must cross the line using it's own power).

Here is what Lieb had to say about it:

Marc Lieb: "Our target was it for sure to let the time pass by. But while slowing down the engine broke and couldn't get started again. Maybe that does sound completely insane but it's just what it is."

The guy behind was Stippi in the Audi who I once had as a private coach and is also a top bloke.

    Yes,

Stippler is a very nice guy. He also has a very interesting career path compared to most drivers that appeared in DTM. Was it an entirely private tuition or one of the trackdays where he attends as an instructor?

    Porsche-Jeck:

Thanks, Ferdie - for the great pics from the Green Hell Smiley I've been there yesterday to sniff some 24h atmosphere Smiley It's always very nice if you know quite a number of drivers and team bosses - walking through the grid, the pits, the lounges...just enjoying some good gasoline talk and wishing good luck to the NoS buddies Smiley

My observation: the 24h become more professional from year to year - pitlane access only for those with an invitation from one of the teams, huge hospitality "buildings" (can't be called "tents" anymore).

Thanks to you as well. Guess with your in-depth view on the scene that the race must´ve been even more entertaining! Totally agree that the race has become more and more professionally organized, both on and off the track. While I truly enjoy the battles at the very front, I can´t hide the feeling that part of the joy of this race is lost due to overly-aggressive and narrow-focussed participants that put a lot of money and effort into their "business". I personally would prefer to watch one GT3 over ten Citroen Saxo on that track any day but it has lost some of its charme. From what I´ve heard even the prices for participants have increased this year. I can only guess that many former participants will enter alternative seriees in the future, be it the 24h Classic event or the RCN if they want to remain on the Nordschleife. If I remember correctly, it has only been 170  entries on the track this years, compared to more than 200 in recent past. I do hope that they will return to a format where both ends will be happy to participate.

Fantastic Sergini, thanks for the links! It's my number one automotive ambition to be able to compete in the VLN-series as well. Congratulations to you for achieving that! kiss

    Re: ADAC 24h - Nurburgring

if you know well the track you can do a Vln , maybe in a little class , or for the first time the best is RCN .

I think to have more than 1000 laps on Nordscheife, but everytime is new ...

on VLN n2 2012 I had a big crash on Kesselken with a Porsche Gt4 , I found rain in the last high speed corner ( 5th gear) ... no way to keep the car on track . in other tracks there is sand , in Nurburging there is only the rail :)

    Re: ADAC 24h - Nurburgring

I would also recommend doing some RCN races as Start to get a feeling. VLN is then much more demanding as you have much more competition and many fast cars. I probably do 1 or 2 RCN this Year just for Fun so if you like we coupé meet at the Ring during a Race and i can get you in Touch with Black Falcon.

    Cheers

I was actually planning on competing in one or two RCN-races this year, to get a feel for it, I was offered a seat in a prepped BMW E46 325i, but given the current economy I'm afraid my attention and money is better spent elsewhere.

Of course it doesn't mean we shouldn't meet up, I'll be at the Ring this Sunday (TF), any chance others are coming as well?

Hi Futch, I'm attending the 24h of Le Mans next week, Le Mans Classic is not on the agenda. Are you coming to the 24h of Le Mans as well?

24h of Spa I'll visit as well, it would be a privilege to meet up there! Smiley

    Re: ADAC 24h - Nurburgring

laughI did SPA 24h last year ( and won Blancpain endurance series in cup class) .

the best race ( and champ) I ve ever run .

24h is very very professional , Nurburging 24h ,also with a 997 cup is "funny"...

Unfortunally we broke the clutch at 6.00 am , 100 m after the pit entry.

If you have problems in the track,in  mans and spa , the race is over .

in Nurbrurgring 24h marhchals bring you to box and you can rejoin.

I ll go to Le mans 24h next year , to see Porsche in LMP1.Smiley
