How many track days did you do with your car?

Not mine, 6 years and going on GT2

Re: OFFICIAL: 991 Turbo and Turbo S

He describes having 900 track miles and another 3 times that on the street! Obviously just does not comprehend what 911 track miles on a Turbo with PTV means in terms of rear brake wear. Or does and wants to blame Porsche rather than accept responsibility. Seems like normal wear and cost to me for tracking a Turbo.

2.6 sec to 60mph on par with the last 997 TTS ... going faster will need tremendous amount of HP ... I guess we have hit the ceiling at least under current configuration.

My 991TT non S feels as fast as my last 997TTS so unless you live in Germany, real life need for the S is limited to the extra goodies you get, which in my case, was not that enticing.

Overall, the car is an absolute beast. Kudos to PAG !

It's indeed a 997. He wanted it on any forum because all ceremic brakes are bad.mail

I think he's just a troll that wants attention and now with the bad publicity because of Nick's video was an ideal moment for him.

He is an idiot. The 991 Turbo S, like the 991 GT3 and the 918, have the latest generation PCCB which isn't the same used on the 997. Not even on the 991 Carrera. Apples and oranges...old story.

Also, track racing is not street driving. The 991 Turbo S and even the GT3 are not track racing cars. They are street cars which can be taken to the track without the need for any mods but if someone wants to professionally track race a car, even the GT3 is the wrong choice, at least in it's OEM state. Also we need to be careful about the differences between track driving/fun and track racing. Some people mean track racing when they are actually referring to track driving or casual track fun.

boosts are always a welcome thing in anything :)

Re: OFFICIAL: 991 Turbo and Turbo S

Why is that after 7 or 8 years the 911Turbo is still the only Petrol production car with a variable geometry turbine turbocharger? Well, at least it's the only one I've heard of.   Is there some kind of long term first dibs agreement at play here between Porsche and BorgWarner?

Re: OFFICIAL: 991 Turbo and Turbo S

Does anyone know when the circular tailpipes (that were shown on the Turbo/S cab brochure) will be available?  I don't see them in the US configurator for either the cab or the coupe.

Re: OFFICIAL: 991 Turbo and Turbo S

They are cancelled due to quality(production) issues.

Re: OFFICIAL: 991 Turbo and Turbo S

Does anyone know that if I were to spec my Turbo S to have the current multifunction steering wheel (heated and in carbon fiber) would I be able to swap it out for the Macan/918 MFS?  Is that one also heated?  I want to order my car soon but don't want to wait for the facelift (which at this point is looking like MY 16 or possibly even 17 if I had to venture a guess).

    Thanks,
    Keith

Maybe the issue that you can get similar tailpipes for 1/10th of the price when you go for aftermarket ones. Smiley I don't know...

Again...supplier issue. The problem(?) is that Porsche has high standards and if these aren't met... The VTG chargers produce a lot of heat and the tail pipes need to be OK with it.

If I had to make a choice beteween these two cars, it would be easy... The Jag is CHF 138k ($154k) cheaper than the Porsche. So it's the Jag without a doubt. Porsche may be the better car, but not twice as good. That said... i don't get the comparison between these two. Yes, they have similar power, but that's all. Smiley

Very different cars indeed and no real competition. But tests like these make it hard to justify the price tag of a Turbo (S).

Re: OFFICIAL: 991 Turbo and Turbo S

Why is the Jaguar so much cheaper? It cannot be that all the difference could be attributed to Porsche's well publicized super profits. IMO very few cars are developed as meticulously with the right components and tested as extensively as Porsche and this should account for a part of the difference. This is crucial especially for those of us who keep their cars for long periods.

What Jaguar did, was to create a heavy car and compensate with a huge engine. This is against my philosophy but many wouldn't mind.

I agree that the price of the Turbo S is prohibitive. But a Carrera S or 4S is as fast as anything and fun on the right roads especially for drivers that don't get their fun in the straightline.

Very true. That's why I don't get the comparison. The Turbo S has so much more (expensive) technology on board, compared to the Jag. Not that it gives any guarantee it's a nicer car, but it justifies some of the price difference. Nevertheless, the Turbo (S) is way too expensive for what you get IMO. And even a well equipped C2S is still at least CHF 25-35k more expensive than an equally equipped Jag F-type R...

Is the F-type R a better product or as good a product as the pricey Carrera S? Too soon to know.

Engine size and speed alone do not determine the depth of quality of a product. Of course, such things are not tangible or relevant even in the context of a magazine/video test or even during a short leasing period. Only long term owners can appreciate real quality after a few years.

For those who change cars every 6 months the Jaguar might be something nice to try.

Re: OFFICIAL: 991 Turbo and Turbo S

I agree again, but it still shows that 911s are too expensive. I would definitely choose a C4S over a Jag F-type R, but only because I like the looks of a C4S more and like you said, the build quality of a Jag is still questionable. It's too soon to know.

But this does not take away that Porsche is pricing itself slowly but surely out of the market IMHO. Especially with the 911. Yes it's an icon, but it's also a mass-produced car. There is a limit to what people want to pay as a premium for the 911 badge.
