Question for those with multifunction wheel...

Is there a way to use the steering wheel to scroll through radio presets? I've messed with it for a couple of hours, and all I can do is change the volume and scroll through the radio options.

Re: Question for those with multifunction wheel...

Sorry I can't help yet but I'll be interested in replies you receive.

I'd be hugely disappointed if you can't scroll thru the presets. My 997S, arriving mid Mar will be my first non-BMW for a while and will be my daily driver. While I'll enjoy driving it, I'll miss the independent ventilation that cools the car at 4.30pm, being able to wind down windows and open sunroof as I walk to the car,(its summer here) and the boot that opens fully with the remote. I can switch on the radio, swap to CD, voice dial the bluetooth phone, change stations etc off the multifunction wheel. I do these almost everytime I drive. I'm starting to think the Porsche is the Ultimate Driving Machine, and the BMW is the Ultimate Compromise... ( We are keeping the 5 series )

    Leong

Re: Question for those with multifunction wheel...

Fair point Leong but to counter all these things the 911 doesn't have, the car a driving pleasure no BMW can match IMO. You will enjoy it. Plus you will still be able to use the 5 series. Good luck!
Chris, sorry, can't answer your question. Don't know.

Re: Question for those with multifunction wheel...

Unfortunately, there is no way to not only scroll through the pre-sets, but there is no way to scan up or down through the frequencies to find a station. A bit disappointing, but since my wife is the one who tends to want to change stations all the time I guess it's not a big enough deal for me.

Now, if I can only get used to using my left hand to insert the key into the ignition!

    Love the car, though!

    Mike

Re: Question for those with multifunction wheel...

Er, not sure if I'm understanding the question correctly, but there is a way to scroll through the available radio stations. What's more, I like how you don't have to click the button, you just let it rest there for a few seconds and the station is changed. I do this by scrolling the right hand button on the wheel.

Because of this list of stations, I have not bothered with the presets. Perhaps it's different from the US - we maybe do not have so many stations here in the UK.

I don't think there is a way to do that (scroll through the presets), Chris. There should be, and if it exists, I'd like to know as well.

Side comment: This morning I was struggling with how much to turn the Bose system up because the engine sounded sooooo gooood! What a life!

Re: Question for those with multifunction wheel...

Well Porsche should get an " unclear on the concept " award then. What's the point of paying $1000 option of a multifunction wheel if you can't scroll through your favorite radio stations w/o taking your hand off the wheel . That's like not being able to move to next or previous track on the CD - wait - maybe it can't do that either .
While on the move , those two functions and volume adjustment are 90% of the use of these type str wheels I've used the last 15 years .

well, i don't think it can move to next or previous track....

Re: Question for those with multifunction wheel...

I use the multifunction wheel for radio volume, station list select, change CD tracks, trip computer, chrono, radio text function select, switich back and forth between all the major function screen (main, radio, trip, etc.), turning the radio on (hold down the right thumb wheel). I guess the multifunction wheel is a little useful. Always room for improve, however.

Are you saying that it does or doesn't scroll to the next preset on a selected station list ? Can't tell from your reply. TIA
BTW, on 2003 on beyond MBZ E classes , they removed the preset scroll from the wheel controls , which they had before on the prev generation and continued to have on all their higher and lower models - you could only scroll to the next strongest signal . It took them 2 years of owner complaints to restore the function and I'm not sure if there's a flash update available . Typical for some of the hurt that MBZ has suffered in the JD Power surveys.

Re: Question for those with multifunction wheel...

Does not, but you can scroll through with the station list, which may coincidentally have some of your presets. Make sense?

Re: Question for those with multifunction wheel...

I passed on the multi-function wheel because I wasn't fond of the setup/interface. Kind of defeats the purpose.

Still unclear. If , say , "FM 1" station list has a favorite station with freq 94.7 on preset position number THREE and next favorite station with freq 95.5 on preset position number FOUR , can I scroll / toggle from station THREE to station FOUR from the steering wheel if I've preselected the " FM 1 " station list ?

No. It's not programmed to do that.

Well ,that sucks . OTOH, $1000 for this wheel is pure profit , like the old $700 footwell lights on the 996. It's just like the '03 and '04 MBZ E class - no preset scan . PAG must be using hated Seimens for the radio / steering wheel interface programming . MBZ and Seimens execs have been having occasionally public face saving hissy fits of finger pointing for the electrical woes that have beset S/SL/CL and E cars the past 3-4 years .

But, but, but, but, but, thumb down to "Station List," and you can thumb through stations there. You can also do it at the Frequency Select menu. Other than that, you are totally right! D Porsche should offer a PCM software update for us. Still an outstanding ride, however!
