    Dreaming a BMW....

Was thinking HARD about the next car to get. I currently have a bmw z4 and an porsche 996 C2 cab. I was thinking of getting a 997 GT3 (which would make me a very happy boy).... or getting and M5. However, I have figured out- I just want the new BMW m3.... (when it comes out late 07- early 08). I need some thoughts guys.. I don't want an audi (simply because of the issue they had with the A6 2.8T being faster than the 4.8 V8). I don't think audi truly knows what they are doing... and I don't want to spend another 40 k on a porsche just to replace the one I have. Help guys!

    Re: Dreaming a BMW....

so.....what exactly do you need help with? lol

    Re: Dreaming a BMW....

    You're dreaming wrong.

    Re: Dreaming a BMW....

I own a porsche, wouldn't mind upgrading to a GT3- don't want to pay 40-50k more for a better porsche that is the current bodystyle... to own sorta the same car VERSUS... ownwing a brand new bmw M3 (a different car)... basically keep the porsche and have a m3 vs keep the z4 and own a gt3.

    Re: Dreaming a BMW....

    Go for the latter, then.

    Re: Dreaming a BMW....

    get z06!

Whatever you do or don't do... dump the Z4.

Ugh yes, dump the "land shark"

It's a love or hate design, and well, I hate the thing. In all its forms.

    Re: Dreaming a BMW....

Indeed, the M3 is a great car. I love mine!

If you can, you really must have all of these cars! They are beautiful machines and really compliment eachother.

The M3 is a great compromise between a sportscar and a VERY practical and comfortable GT car. SMG transmission is brilliant and saves the embarrassment of having a slushbox auto in a proper kit sportscar.

GT3 is VERY hardcore when fitted with rollcage and racing seats/6pt harness, too hardcore to use daily and not practical at all.

My M5 is excellent but heavy compared to the M3. The M3 is the perfect niche car for 60-70k in terms of being well rounded.

If you don't REALLY need the huge backseats, and can settle for the small seats in the M3, it is a great choice. The new V8 in the upcoming M3 should be great.

    Re: Dreaming a BMW....

Geez, how many cars do you have????

    Lucky man

    Re: Dreaming a BMW....

Is the next M3 really expected end of 2007????

I was hoping to see it end of this year

i asked at my dealer about a month ago and was told that mid 2007 is the very earliest, they also said about 2 yrs time is most likely. This seems reasonable as the new coupe hasn't been unveiled yet, and the M car usually follows about 1.5 - 2 yrs later.

    Re: Dreaming a BMW....

hahaha, dump the land shark. Well, I don't like the revised look of it at all...I don't like the slk, and I don't really like the weak porsche boxster- so these types of mini roadsters are old hat now. So far as owning a few cars- hahaha, all I can afford is two... the porsche set me back about 90k and the bmw was (amazingly b/c of a trade in) only about 20k at the end. So- I am happy... but one must be changed. The new M3 that will come out next year or two years will certainly be what I want opposed to me getting a gt3... moreover- it will have more horsepower and ben a little less than half of the cost of a gt3.

    Re: Dreaming a BMW....

    I took a '06 987S over a '06 M3 with Competition Package

M3 was fast, no doubt about it, but it wasn't really any fun to me...no passion either, just a 3 series injected with M steroids as I always say it's a rice rocket for yuppies or spoiled HS kids...steering was great but not as good as a Porsche (any Porsche except the Cayenne).. underneath it all it's just a sedan, and that's fine for some people. I like the fact that the 987S was a sportscar roadster from day 1 and wasn't trying to pretend to be anything else.

If you have the money, which it sounds like it wouldn't be a problem to you, I wouldn't even think about the M3. This rings especially true if you decide to track it .. the GT3 will obliterate the M3 on a track. Who knows, in two years when we finally see an M3, could there be a GT2 available?

    Re: Dreaming a BMW....

I wouldn't think about getting an E46 M3 at this late date... the looks are nice but they are kinda standard now... If anything I would get a used one and buy it just to wait for the next one. But I do enjoy my Z4--- I'm just not blown away with it... the 911 works great and it isn't going to be changed in a while.. so there is no real need to replace it for one with 70 or so more horsepower.

I generally like the M's... The Z4M is sorta a joke imo, simply because it gets the old engine- like bmw couldn't have put in the new M engine. So, again, the roadsters get screwed over by bmw on a real M performance car.

The new M5 looks good and sounds amazing... so no problems there.

The M6 looks like a boat. There are no two ways about it. It's not attractive at all... the only reason why I would even consider one is that they are making an M6 Cab.

The new M3 should be good and get the new v8 engine.. so, I am just going to put my money down on it for the summer to reserve one (before anyone else)... and hope bmw doesn't screw it up. (hopefully summer will be an alright time to reserve it, b/c I still know people that haven't gotten their M5's yet).

get a gt3 you wont regret it..

These guys from Lebanon are smart characters

    Re: Dreaming a BMW....

I wouldn't call a GT3, just another Porsche. That is like comparing a standard C6 to a Z06. Totally different cars. I think you have to ask, what you want to do with the car? Is it you daily? 2nd car? track car? I think the M3 would be the nicest to drive everyday, the GT3 limits can only be appreciated at the track, so if you NEVER plan to go there, I wouldn't buy one. Your 996 is more than enough for the street. What about the new M convertible? It has something like 330hp in a pleasent looking package.

    Re: Dreaming a BMW....

Well I dunno about 'totally different' cars. The basis of a gt3 is the typical 911/997 body and some of it's underpinnings... not the other way around. A Z06 Corvette doesn't exist unless the base model is there- same with the M cars. So in that sense, I am happy with just my porsche.. getting a GT3 would be like getting a sportier version of the current car. The Z4 already has a changed body and I am tired of it at this point- great car, but not much of an upgrade from the z3 (which I liked even more, b/c it made no beefs about what it was- it was a roadster- love it or leave it).

So far as the gt3, I have moved out to AZ (finally) and it doesn't rain much here.. so many of the issues like snow and inclimate weather truly don't exist (it is raining today.. and it rained last wknd.. the first time in 150 days or something). So far as the M roadster---yeah.....I think bmw must think it's buyers are fools. The Mroadster isn't anything new- it's the same engine as the old M3. Why pay 56k for the same crap (nearly) and that the old M roadster had? moreover- the old m roadster with just 315hp was faster.

So, I think that I am going to wait for the New M3 to come out and lay down my deposit on it this summer. I would drive the car every day (and use the porsche when I felt like it). And I think it's coming in a four door--which I wouldn't mind.

    Re: Dreaming a BMW....

Just thought I'd add an opinion as I've had both an M3 and currently own an M5. I'm completely underwhelmed with the M5 and would not recommend one. It has terrible full tank range (less then 200 miles), terrible mileage (12mpg on a good day), IDrive is pathetic, and SMGIII is in some ways worse than SMGII.

I'm currently waiting for Porsche to put PDK in their cars so I could purchase another Porsche...

    Re: Dreaming a BMW....

For anybody interested in the new M3, just see the spy shots on www.germancarfans.com/

They are absolutely hideous. Even the current M3 looks fantastic compared to the new M3.

    Re: Dreaming a BMW....

you realize that the m3 has covering on it, right? The car looks GREAT... can't wait to see what's underneath the camo crap.

I refuse to call it an M3

It's a super souped up Honda Civic Sports coupe
