New 997.5 Wheels - Closeup pics

Thought it might be handy to post close ups of the two new wheel options.

Re: New 997.5 Wheels - Closeup pics

Thanks. I'm not so sure about these two styles. They don't seem to do it for me for some reason. I can't choose between them, perhaps the lower of the two, but only because they'd be easier to clean.

Re: New 997.5 Wheels - Closeup pics

The first is the standard wheel from the Boxster??

The second looks nice though - copied from Z06 and F430... Nice to see some originality!

Re: New 997.5 Wheels - Closeup pics

Lower one for sure..but not really doing it for me either...

    For comparison purposes:
    Boxster (17") standard wheel

Re: New 997.5 Wheels - Closeup pics

first one seems a smaller replica of gt3 wheels..

Re: New 997.5 Wheels - Closeup pics

and Cayman (17") standard wheel, though I can't recall to ever have spotted the 17" inchers on the road
The new design wheels don't impress me - they just don't look very "Porsche" to me

Re: New 997.5 Wheels - Closeup pics

The Boxster wheel looks better than the 997 wheel.

Re: New 997.5 Wheels - Closeup pics

new wheel designs don't do it for me either. i'll miss the lobster forks, which were original and fit the 997 perfectly. i'll reserve judgment on the lower ones (the 19 inch Carrera S II wheel) until i see them in person, but i would probably spec my order with the Carrera classics. overall, disappointed with the new wheels.

Re: New 997.5 Wheels - Closeup pics

Glad to see these casts pass into the past at last.

IMHO, they never made any sense. Looked clunky and, very oddly: presented zero relationship to any part of the rest of the car.

Re: New 997.5 Wheels - Closeup pics

The new wheels aren't for me either - I went for Carrera Sports! Classic design and easy to clean as they are painted - I have SDs at the moment and spent to longer cleaning them - they look great thoughg!

Re: New 997.5 Wheels - Closeup pics

I'm waiting fromthem to put the GT2/Gt3 wheels as an option, to me those are the best wheels even though they look quite similar to the SportsDesign I have on the Cayenne..but who cares

    Didn't like the "lobster fork"?

Never understood the lobster fork association - maybe I have too much Currywurst mit Pommes
I liked the Carrera S wheel from the beginning and still wouldn't swap them to another wheel, though I like the Classics and SD also

Re: New 997.5 Wheels - Closeup pics

I like the standard carrera S MK1 wheels.
To me they look a bit like the old fusch style without beeing an exact copy.

    The new ones I hate.....

Re: New 997.5 Wheels - Closeup pics

The new wheels are lame.... The first looks similar to Cayenne, and would look more at home on an SUV... The second looks like a more-boring rip-off of Corvette...

I love my lobster forks (they actually far-more resemble a CLUTCH FORK, which is a more logical mechanical tie-in, but "lobster fork" is the term that's stuck...), they hit a "industrial design" nerve that resonates positively with me (and lots of others obviously)... They're anti-establishment, just like the 911 has always been...

The new wheels are too damn feminine, period...

Re: New 997.5 Wheels - Closeup pics

The wheels IMHO that truly stand out in the current Porsche line up are the Turbo wheels .. Had them in my ex-911 and already ordered them for my next 911. I should add that my forthcoming 911 is in Meteor Grey, so it works well as the inside of the Turbo wheels is in Meteor grey

Re: New 997.5 Wheels - Closeup pics

yep - they are good with meteor

Re: New 997.5 Wheels - Closeup pics

Not a fan of the Turbo wheel... Always makes me think "aftermarket", and I can't say why....

Re: New 997.5 Wheels - Closeup pics

My favorites are the Carrera S, aka lobster fork, and Carrera Sport, especially color matched to a grey exterior.

Re: New 997.5 Wheels - Closeup pics

I love my lobster wheels. They are different then anything that exists. I find them to be ' technical' and go well with the Porsche philosophy ( actually I thing they are the only nice rims ( exept GT3) from Porsche since the Fuchs.
I always have found P rims to be so dull .
i will have the new S wheels, not great, but will have them painted in black. This option in not possible through the car configurator at the dealers, but I will insist and try to get them in flat back.
I hope they will look better like that ...

    +1

Re: New 997.5 Wheels - Closeup pics

basically what i deduce is everyone has there own opinions on what they like and dislike - what makes us individuals

    Well said...

The one wheel that I flat-out DISLIKED for any number of reasons was the "turbo twist"... It was like Porsche's version of the mini-trucker's "sawblade"...
