    REVIEW: Base 2.0L Macan

    I was wondering when this would happen and it's finally here: a review of the four-cylinder, 2.0L Macan currently sold in the United Kingdom, China and select Asian markets [for now]. Of particular note is the power level in this Macan; Thailand taxes cars on engine displacement and power output, so cars with over 220 hp get a bigger price tag slapped onto them. To avoid this, Porsche detuned the engine from 237 hp to 211 hp, in line with the pre-facelift Audi Q5.
     
    This review is from the Bangkok Post and based on what I'm seeing separately on Instagram, the base Macan is doing very well in Asia. I believe it'll fly off the floors if the rest of the world gets it as well.

    My god... I had completely forgot that Porsche was going to launch a Macan 2.0l. 

    I guess my mind erase the bad news first.

    That said, I can see why customers don't hesitate nowadays to leave Porsche for BMW, Mercedes or Audi. 

    Porsche is no different anymore. Smiley

    I think the 2.0 is for specific markets only. Why should Porsche lose a sale in a special requirements market and let someone else benefit?

    In the UK it can be imported by special order but it is just 3.000 GBP less than the V6, so there is no point ordering.

    Porsche has currently designated all left-hand 2.0L Macans for the Chinese market due to immense demand for that vehicle there because of its heavy taxation on engine displacement. That's why the only other markets that presently have access to it are right-hand, markets like Thailand, Malaysia, Japan and the United Kingdom among others.

    Since Porsche will have moved some Cayenne production to Osnabrück in Q2 2015, that should relieve some pressure on the Leipzig production facility and allow them to build more Macans for other markets. Leipzig also has the option of expanding Macan production from 50000 units to 80000 a year, so with the Cayenne out of the way, they can start pumping then out by the shipload. My guess is that they should also have other variants [Macan Diesel/Macan GTS/Macan Turbo S] out by then.

    Whether we like it or not, we mustn't forget that the Macan was always conceived to be Porsche's volume seller. It only makes sense that the four-banger will make it to other markets in the not-too-distant future as the car has only been prowling streets worldwide since March/April. All it needs is a few more months to catch up to and outsell the Cayenne.

    The Macan Turbo in black looks really good when you see one live.

    But somehow the joy of Porsche ownership is being reduced with so many Cayennes made and now even more Macans to be made. Doesn't mean the product is bad, its just maybe the wrong badge on them. Asking so much $$$ for Porsche options and 991s will become harder to do with so many cheap Macans running around soon.

    You can honestly say that Porsche is VW's most profitable truck company that also builds some sports cars.

    Macan 2.0 costs; US$78.000.00 here in Taiwan, and a bit more in China.  However, this is considered cheap in our market....  Since Q5 2.0TDI costs the same as Macan 2.0.  However there are 600 orders been sold out till Delivery 2015 Sept.  By next year, there will be one on every other corner....  Together with Cayenne, Porsche as a brand no longer has the same value as before anymore.  its just like Audi/ BMW/ Mercedes now...   Don't get me wrong here... Porsche makes good cars, but so does Audi/ BMW....   Test drove the Macan 2.0....  I walk out feeling ZERO emotion towards the car....  Perhaps it is for people who never was able to "OWN" a Porsche now they can have one.  That's it.  Nothing more about the car needs to be stated....  same goes to Q5, X3...  Its just a small SUV....

    Just wait until the put an Porsche Logo on top of the Audi Q3... just a matter of time and you will see plenty of 4 cylinder, original Audi parts with that logo!
