    New Porsche in september

I've heard one of my friends said that it will come a new Porsche model
at the IAA in Frankfurt in september.
Does anyone here knows something about that model?

    Re: New Porsche in september

It would more likely be a concept I imagine? Hopefully the front engined predecessor to the 928!?

There have been a lot of rumors about Porsche and the IAA 2003 in Frankfurt:

    1. new Boxster
    2. Cayenne V6
    3. Cayenne Turbo Diesel
    4. Carrera GT Turbo
    5. 4th model: GT with lots of HP (based on Cayenne V8) and front engine

    The choice is yours...

    Re: New Porsche in september

    "4. Carrera GT Turbo"

which would most certainly be the least likely of the rumors.

    Re: New Porsche in september

If the Carrera GT is in fact the case, what about all the folks who plunked down big bucks assuming they were buying the fastest Porsche ever produced???

I agree. Number 1 and 4 are out because they interfere with current sales. Number 2 is already out there and number 3 wouldn't be that exciting. Number 5 is a possibility. Maybe they aren't going to announce anything new. I think that has the greater likelihood.

    Re: New Porsche in september

I agree with the "nothing new" concept. From what I've read so far this is a Daimler/Chrysler; VW, BMW show.

    Re: New Porsche in september

    "4. Carrera GT Turbo"

I assumed the Carrera GT was turbo charged?

Nope, just high efficiency in the high revs to get 612 hp out of a 5.7 liter v-10. This is a little more than 100 hp per liter. I'm sure they could get 150 hp per liter easily if it was turbocharged. That would be an output of around 900 hp.

    Re: New Porsche in september

I've just looked at the Porsche site and have confirmed that it is "naturally-aspirated V10". Wow, thats quite impressive

    This just in!

New at the IAA! 959 convertible heritage edition!! Contact your PC's now and try to reserve one! This is bound to be a classic...

    Re: This just in!

    Very creative

Let's say that #5 is announced. Does this mean that the standard 911, a car that arguably blends both GT and sports car characteristics, will move to pure sports car in the next generation? It would be fun to see! This strategy would separate the wheat from the chaff so to speak. My salesperson tells me that many buyers are skipping 911's and going for Cayennes. They realized they don't really want a sports car, just a Porsche Maybe this will give buyers another choice.

Justin, you're a genius. It's THE answer. It gives Porsche revenue, the uncommitted Porsche wannabes a car to buy besides the SUV, and us extreme sports car enthusiasts a more pure 911.

My perspective is that the 911s are too heavy and too compromised. I think the suv is a marvel, but it's not a sports car and I was not looking forward to hearing about a GT car, since again, it's not a sports car. However, your post completely changed my mind. People (not me) are going to want to buy practical Porsches that are roomy and don't have suspensions that shake you. If Porsche gives them what they want with a DIFFERENT model, then they don't need to compromise the 911 (or any sports car, boxter for example) for this audience. It would be a wonderful thing.

    Re: This just in!

I think taz found the number 6.

there were rumors about a 996 speedster, perhaps it looks like this terrific white car.

i'm fascinated that they took finally parts like magnesium wheels or radical blue leather sport seats.

But for a speedster it is amazing, that it has got back seats?

i'm wondering how small the new engine is. it seems like an underfloor flat 6 in the back or something extremly compact...that would make the car better balanced i think...

but by the way, bi-xenon is no longer an option, as we can see on this picture...

(or is it nr. 1., the new boxster - i think it looks a bit too aggressive and too fast for a boxster?)

can anybody help??? perhaps special infos from "werk 1" (RC)?

or last but not least just a full equiped aerokit 996, like doncapecod's silver beauty. this two cars look very similar!!??
