Assuming you're a reasonably athletic and intelligent person, It does not matter if you have 10 months or 10 years experience, you should be good on any bike that is size appropriate. Too many people are idiots and lacking general life experience, not lacking skills. The differential in speed between the BMW and my current bike is not great. The BMW is much easier to ride.

Good luck with this one...on a super bike. Smiley

However, not everybody who drives knows how to ride so it is out of the scope of many petrolheads. Personally,I wouldn't buy such a bike myself, although I enjoy motorbiking very much, because the temptation to go very fast and take risks might have unpleasant consequences. But if I were to choose I would prefer it to any comparable Japanese or Italian bike.

Japanese still rule in sporbikes. They make the best. One of the 1st things I said when I walked into the BMW dealership (because I had only discovered this bike a month or 2 before in a magazine) was have they worked the bugs out? You know you never buy the first years production. Well they said it's been out for a couple years and some stuff had been corrected.

Well I read yesterday that BMW has issued a recall for a lot of 2012 production due to a bad batch of wrist pins (the things that connect piston and rod. So it seems that BMW needs even more time. They are a good company so I am confident it will get fixed right. The Japs know how to build a dependable product and have done so for decades.

I didn't know about the recall. That's a serious flaw!

Nevertheless, if you finally get the RR you'll be very happy with the ride experience. I don't think of myself as an idiot,  but I wouldn't like to own a superbike as I find it too risky under the circumstances.

In the same way that the Nissan GT-R rules sportscars. I would never own a GT-R compared to a 911 Turbo.

I don't know about the nissan ruling sportscars, but I get your analogy and it does not apply here.

The Japs made the sportbike market, they own it. They didn't show up late with some tech and say here we are like the GTR. The also make most of the best looking bikes. They have led the way in styling that type of bike. And like I said above they make the best quality bikes.

Like my car, I do not say this stuff after the fact to justify what I have, I knew before I bought. But I still looked at everything. When I first made the decision to purchase a bike I thought I may end up on a Harley V-Rod (looked at them for years). I researched every aspect of bike ownership, characteristics of all bike types, performance, value, quality............................ When it all boiled down I ended up with my exact bike, the model, make, and color. I drove a long distance to buy it. It simply has the best mix of attributes you want in a bike. Since buying it I have been back to the harley store and sat on all them again and can't believe how little they are in comparison, plus lack of wind protection, vibration , costs ................ then Ducati's, simply over-rated with that same mystique that so many give to ferrari. Had a diavel parked next to mine a while back, mine looked so much better. Victory, Triumph, the other jap brands................

The BMW RR is the only thing I would add to what I have, most other BMW models aren't that appealing and that is because the RR is styled like a Jap bike. I suppose if you could put the BMW engine in my bike, that would be the perfect ride.

That was funny, but ironically more dangerous. I rode a mountain bike on the street as exercise/transportation for short distances for years. I gave it up for health and as we have seen with Werner from SA you can get nailed on one of these. Riding a bicycle on the street is much more dangerous than a motorcycle.

Reginos here is a great page with facts and reviews on my bike

Very good bike and top test!

I hadn't known of this version before. Only the GSX-R 1000 was familiar to me.

You are very correct about bicycling on public roads. I cycle most weekends and I have at least one  fall every year due to car drivers being idiots. No damage so far.  I'm going tomorrow at 6am to avoid the heat. It's been 42-46 C since last Monday.
