    How can these times fall so behind Von Saurma's

    He did 7.50 in a Carrera S.  Is he he so much better driver?

    I haven't read the article but there seem to be three factors:

    (1) AB Sportscars may measure a full lap (20.8 km vs. 20.6 km Sportauto lap) - difference probably is good for a gap of 4-5 seconds

    (2) CarreraS was on Sport Tires, TurboS Cab not......guesstimate: another 7 seconds

    (3) Weather: if AB Sportscars would have done the test only recently the very hot weather wouldn't have helped to get the maximum power out of the Turbo....

    (4) Driver: not sure who drove the cars (maybe someone else who read the article can add the info).

    There's nothing wrong with these times IMO. HvS did 7.44 min with the lighter R8 V10 R-tronic on 20,6 km, the Spyder was only 6 seconds slower on 200 metres longer track. That's pretty impressive. Von Saurma's fastest time with the 997.1 Turbo was 7.52 min (re-run after Supertest's 7.54 min), this Turbo S Cab was 4 seconds faster. On 20,8 km.

    We can cut 5 seconds from these times for the 20,6 km-times easily, so:

    7.43 min - Turbo S Cabriolet

    7.45 min - R8 Spyder

    After reading these times, I appreciate more for the 7:50 time of CSL back in 2003

    Even on Cup tires that car was on par with 997.2 Carrera S on cup tires and faster than its main rival 996.2 GT3.

     Not a bad showing for the R8 considering how much slower it is in acceleration.

     How did the R8 go faster in section 6, yet go slower in section 5? By the looks of it, section 6 is a very high speed straight in which the 911 should dominate it, and section 5 looks like more curves where I expect the R8 to out handle it and not lose much ground due to acceleration.
